This is my soon to be hen house....had to stop work on it today due to rain. We are restoring one of the old sheds that was already on our property using reclaimed/recycled barn siding from another project. Very happy with the results so far. Got a broody sitting on eggs now and hope to have it all finished by the time they hatch. Kinda like making sure the nursery is done by the time the baby arrives, lol.
Anyone have pics of the inside of their coop...I need nest box ideas as well as roost pole ideas. Not fancy shmancy stuff, I am keeping my hen house rustic and "old school" on purpose. I am looking for some unique nest box ideas that y'all are using. I'm thinking of using tree limbs that are the correct diameter for roost poles but still haven't decided on nest boxes.

Miss Agnes is one HAPPY camper with those eggs! She fusses at me when I check in on her. Do you think I should candle the eggs this weekend?
Oh, and I am soooo hoping the duckies hatch! my daughter is so excited about those duck eggs.

You can candle them. Is she having a problem with how many you gave her? If so, I'd candle them and take out the duds (though I wouldn't take out the duck eggs until they're 10+ days along b/c they take longer). The ones from mine should mostly be fertile, if not all. The buffs I gave you, like I said, I don't know and the ducks...they're a crap shoot right now. hehe

If the ducks don't work out, when fertility gets better, I can hatch some out for your DD later in the season. I won't be hatching much after March/beginning of April so there'll be plenty of spare eggs and room in the incubator, if need be.

Sounds good. I will keep you posted on the progress. If you have baby ducks available for sale, I would be interested in those too if these don't hatch. Esp around easter.

Ranchhand, THanks a bunch! I hope they all hatch too! See what getting all hopped up on cookies does to me?, LOL!

you crack me up! I can't take credit for the handy work on this...it's being done by a young man that is also doing some rock masonry work for us. He's very talented but doesn't give himself enough credit for his work.
