Hi, I might have to start all over again if my girls are sick. Have a vet here today to do some blood work. But if its bad don't worry I will be sanitizing everything and I will just wait till next spring to start. I and wanting a VERY colorful egg basket. I want allot of LARGE eggs and the bigger the better but will do small also. I want color! Please let me know what are the best. Thanks

Ameraucana for the blue eggs (med.), EE for the green eggs (lg), BCM for the dark brown eggs (very lg), golden sex links for the beige eggs (lg), and leghorn for the white (lg). Just a few of the endless possibilities!

Egg color was the most important thing when I first purchased eggs...

I purchased: true Ameraucanas--baby blue to very blue.eggs
French Black Copper Marans: Chocolate colored
Barred Rock, Buff Orpingtons and Rhode Island Reds : pinkish, beige, cream, brown
Easter Eggers: olive, green, aqua colored...

I loved the colors of my girls as much as the color of eggs... I had Blue, Black w/ copper necks, black and white barred, blonde, red, cream--- Eye candy for the basket and the yard...

Blue Eggs: Ameraucana or Cream Legbars (but the eggs are not very large)
Green Eggs: Easter Egger(it's hit or miss with them though, some will lay blue, some green, some turquoise, some brown, some pink), unless you can find a breeder who sells Olive Eggers(dark olive green)
Brown Eggs: Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, or Production Red(Cinnamon Queen, BLack Sex Links, etc)
Dark Brown: breeder quality Marans(Black Coppers lay the darkest), Barnevelders lay a dark egg also, as well as Welsummers. The latter two are spotted. If you go with hatchery quality, the eggs aren't very dark. THey look more like a good brown egg.
Cream/Tinted Eggs: Australorps and Orpingtons

Good luck!
