wanting to hear your chicken stories

I want to start off with a story about my hen Old red this was last year but she was sitting on a clutch of eggs outside of my coup there free roam so she sat pretty much wherever she wanted to she did all the normal things a mother hen would and on about the 20th day we had a fox come into the yard keep in mind she is a Buff Orpington so she is a good size hen the fox circled the area where she was several times before heading strait toward her my little Black rose comb bantam rooster who cant weigh more then a few lbs and obviously much much smaller then then fox came out of no where and broadsided that fox in the face with his spurs actually causing the fox to stumble he squawked and hollered the whole time he was attacking that fox it was pretty amazing the fox Ended up being shot by my brother moments later but the3 things that really made me smile where mama didn't even move off her eggs how brave that little rooster was and the fact that the next day she hatched out 9 of the most beautiful babies ever!!!!

not offended here. just a note to say I was so interested in the rooster being so protective that I missed the end of the story completely. I had to go back and read the rest of the story. I still love that most awesome rooster!!

Last year My neighbors dog got loose, and Scared all of my birds. I had to wait till dark to do a proper head count, once I was able to count all my birds I noticed that one of my girls was missing. Sandy my Buff Rock was no where to be found. I was devastated. I grabbed a Flashlight and scoured the area. I ept looking for her all through the next day. After 3 days I gave up all hope.

11 Days after the incident, i was working outside, and I kept hearing a weird noise. It was coming from the wood stacks we have behind our house. So thinking we had another woodchuck in there, I went and looked to see where it was. So I strated looking in between all the piles. I got to the middle one, and saw something orange, so looked closer, and there stuck between two piles of wood, was my Buff Rock Sandy!! I couldnt believe it! at first i thought she was dead, as I couldnt see her move. I began moving the wood, and was finally able to reach in and grab her. And she immediately began clucking!! I was exstatic!!

I checked her completly over, and besides having a small scrape on the top of her head,a nd being dehydrated she was just fine. So I took her in the house, set up a nice area for her, and gave her water and food, and took care of her booboo. The next day, she was very perky, and just talking away to me! So I decided to place her back outside, with everyone else. I kept an eye put just incase anyone tried to give her a hard time. But to my amazement everyone came over and greted her, and they all seemed so excited to see her!

Her Mate, my Buff Rock Roo Ron was just beside himslef, and was very protective of her, and refused to leave her side. He seemed so happy to have her back, as we all were!
Sandy is My miracle Chicken!!

My Girl Sandy! two days after being found.
