I live in northern NH and am looking at Heritage Turkey Breeds to begin raising in the Spring....I am leaning toward the Narragansetts, but would like to hear from others, experienced in raising the Heritage breeds, esp the Narragansetts....are they cold hardy? What should I know before I get some....are they hard to raise? I am in a pretty remote area and started raising chickens this year....plan to have a couple of pigs a couple of steers and a few goats in the same area as the turkeys....any warnings, advice or recommendations? (PLEASE!!

I raised 3 narragansetts and two hens and a tom and just butchered them at 1 1/2 years old....not producing me eggs at all. I have not tried the meat and my first time raising them. It is pretty cold here in the winter and they liked to be out on the perch a lot the tom especially but I did have a heat light inside for them too. The hens stayed more inside. I think I am gonna try some midget whites for next year. It is really hot in the summer and I think they had more trouble with that then the cold....I put shade up for them.

Good luck!
