I have had a Pekin duck, who gave us about an egg a day for eight years, and later on a New Hampshire Red rooster, whom I loved. Now I want to raise my own flock for eggs. Since the eggs are just for me, I don’t need more than two or three hens, Maybe two hens and a rooster. I live in the suburbs, on a third of an acre, near the mountains. Here is what my backyard looks like. I would like to free-range my chickens.

Hi and welcome to BYC. Personally I’d do without a rooster :confused:Chat with other BYC members nearby using the links in my signature, below (turn your phone to landscape to see them).

Make yourself at home and enjoy the forums.

Best wishes

That sounds great! I have had two flocks of three hens, and both have done just great! I recommend starting from day olds if your only doing a few, and no roo, though if your city allows it and you want it, go ahead. However, most cities don't so just be cautious. I had to rehome my (unintentional) roo.
