The victim does pass out pretty quickly due to oxygen deprivation, I think. Actual death takes a little longer, but it's like suffocating -- you pass out, brain cells gradually die, and then everything just shuts down.
Burning live over a fire would definitely be a bit more agonizing.
Burning and drowning are, in my mind, two of the worst ways to go.

Actually, I don't think that they would. The meat would be tougher.
When culling an animal, it is best to do it quickly and swiftly, without giving the creature much time to struggle. If it dies all tense and full of acid, then the meat will be tougher and harder to chew.
I believe so, anyway.

I'm sorry, but its a little bit annoying. I don't think the OP wanted this thread to be a joking thread. and the "jokes" seem very serious. "Maybe animals taste better if they had a slow, painful death" seems like a snarky comment to the OP for killing these ferrets.
