War with coons is on

This is a smart and persistent coon I am dealing with. It's coming thru the roof now since I've reinforced everywhere else I can think of. I'm down to 4 chickens. Cried a little this morning because I'm at wits end. So, tonite chickens will go to the smaller coop, I call it the Chinese Chicken Coop. I've eliminated a lot of coons so this one is really outsmarting me. I will win, it's personal now.
I feel that. I just caught one last night, surprisingly, since I didn't put bait in the trap. Best of luck catching yours, and finding all the places to reinforce.

Cover all openings with 1/2" hardware cloth and put an apron around the bottom to end all predators eating them! Sorry for your loss!
We are closing up any opening with wood. I've seen them chew right through hardware cloth. As far as that goes I've seen them chew through wood ha. My carpenter will be here soon and we will evaluate and get to work. The coop is on the ground and the floor is solid so that is ok.

I have coons and possums that visit my coop regularly but none of them have ever gotten inside my coop. It was covered with galvanized steel mesh hw cloth 1/2" in 2021 and is in perfect working condition.

When my sons catio needed repairs possums stole dry catfood every night until I did the repairs myself. They were an eerie sight sleeping in the canopy of trees over my chicken coop .One or two of them still visit the house every night but most of them are long gone

Besides everything else suggested I vote for LSGD. Why do you call it the Chinese chicken coop?
Hi. Yes I agree a dog could do wonders. I raise rabbits. I suppose they could get along. They love my cat. I've had dogs thru life and loved them but now not a big dog girl. I don't allow dogs on my property. That could change. The thing with dogs that I have observed is it all depends on the owner. Do they train their dog or is it just a pain in my a**. Neighbors dog killed my laying hens this spring and I let it live. As far as the chinese coop haha I bought it online. It serves its purpose but it's very small and made in China.

I believe we fixed the coop problem. Hallelujah. Had a gap we closed. Time to concentrate on rabbits now and get over my loss of chickens. I wanted to mention owls. With a lot of ground squirrels, the owls come and clean them out. Owls have never messed with my cat, chickens or rabbits. I like them and talk to them but also keep an eye on them.
