What are some ways to keep wild birds away from the chickens?
There were 2 cases of Avian Influenza in wild hawks a couple counties away from me and with migration season coming up i need to prepare incase the chickens have to go on lock down.

So far my idea is a radio with a talk show on. I have also considered wavy tube man but they are expensive. And i want some back up plans incase the birds get use to the radio.

Ask yourself why the wild birds are coming to your coop instead of spending their time hustling for natural food. The answer, is you are allowing them to eat your chicken feed.

Natures creatures have to spend most of the daylight hours scrounging for natural food or they die or they are so weak they can't migrate and reproduce when spring arrives. They aren't hanging around the cool big birds in your coop.

Control access to your feed with a treadle feeder. Luckily even the poorly made and poorly designed treadle feeders can handle wild birds, if you pick one that you don't have to leave open during "training" as they call it.

Control the feed, you control the wild birds, you control the disease vectors your flock face.

Kudos for being concerned. As a group, if all of us don't start taking bio security seriously then we might find the feds, state, and local government doing it for us and we will not like the outcome.
