Hi my name is Shari and I live on a farm with my husband Daniel, our roommate Kelly, and her daughter who is seven years old named Madison.

I'm grabbing the template for fun.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are new to chickens I know this is the "Backyard Chicken Forum" and it's not really a backyard, we have a 200+ acre farm but none of us have really done this before. We decided after long debate to put the farm to good use and get some chickens. We got them Monday the 11th.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 5, four hens and one rooster.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Two Rhode Island Red's, one New Hampshire red (the only one who's been named yet, dubbed Henny Penny by our roommate after the hen from "the sky is falling") a Black Australorp, and one Arucana rooster.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
While researching chickens and chicken care this site comes up constantly.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We are actually generally technological people and spend most of the time on the computer or out in the yard. It's really one or the other of the polar opposites lol.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Well, Right now we all do farm work for a living and are looking at expanding the flock for extra income around here as well as some nice tasty eggs. Me and my husband have been together three years and our friend asked around 3 months ago if we could move in to help her out around here and with her daughter. So here we are. Kelly works for her dad and grandparents helping out on her grand parents farm because they are getting on in years and can't do much of it themselves anymore. And of course Madison, (Maddy for short), goes to school, she is now in charge of letting out the chickens in the morning, feeding them and collecting eggs before she goes to school. We do the everything with them during the day and then we do another egg collection at night and get them penned, right now we're still in the proccess of getting the roof on the pen so we have to make sure they get inside at night. It's too cold for them to roam outside. We also have three dogs and two cats. Two of the dogs are mine and my husband's, a jack russell terrier who is going on 3 years old, and a bassett hound who is a year old. She has an Alaskan huskie who has taken to chicken watching at night to make sure they are protected, she is 12 years old or so. Then there is Ava who is a come and go kind of cat, though she spends most of her time in the house she does go outside from time to time. She recently had kittens, only one of whom survived...unfortunately. She still dosen't have a name yet, so we just call her kitty. lol.

So that's us I hope you enjoy the story.
