Warminster PA - not chicken friendly?

I am new to the forum and so far it's a pretty cool site.

I have checked with the Warminster, PA township folks and they said that I would need 10 acres of land per chicken I want to raise. I have 1/2 acre of property and want to have 2-3 hens for pets/eggs. I have 3 kids and they don't require 1/2oth of 10 acres each! It's obviously made to restrict us from owning hens. I would build a nice coop/pen and would not let them run the yard. I can't see what the issue is.

Any similar situations?

Thanks!

from Ohio. So glad you joined. 10 acres per bird is ridicules. I would check with others in your area and see how they feel about it. Maybe a petition is in order to get things changed. Good Luck.

Welcome to BYC! My husbands family lives in warminster lol! Is the WW still there (Warminster West). It could be a tough battle with the township (they seem to have restrictions on everything) but if you really want chickens it couldnt hurt to try. Good Luck.
