I had my quail in the hatching box at the bottom of my sportsmans with the humidity hatch open. What happened was my quail can hop out of the hatching box and exit thru the humidity hole.
Just a warning.

I never use the Hatching Tray in the bottom of my Sportsman.
I always remove the eggs from the Sportsman and put them in the Genesis to hatch.
That way I can keep an eye on whats happening.
In the hatching tray you really can't see much of anything.

You need to use a hatching tray cover...nothing gets out when you use one of them..after the hatch is complete you can take the whole tray out with cover on, and set in into your brooder and unleash the fresh chicks...

the covers work well to contain quail and pheasant chicks to the hatching trays, however i don't use one when hatching large fowl chickens or turkeys..
