WARNING: Dangers of swimming pools

WARNING TO THOSE WITH SWIMMING POOLS ....This morning I got a shock when I found one of my hens, Sambuka, drowned in my out of ground swimming pool! I thought of kids, dogs safety but never thought one of my hens would fly up and go into the pool! I'm heartbroken...she just started laying her eggs a week ago...7 eggs ..last one was yesterday....

I'm so sorry this happened to you -- but thank you for posting the information. People sometimes post here about how their chickens like to swim. They probably do -- for a little while.

That's another reason I can't let my hens free range. My neighbors have several 300 gallon water tanks. One of my hens thought it would be a good idea to drink . . . . Not a good idea. . .

Ty , she was so curious, and of all my hens she would jump over enclosure and come up the satires of our porch...never gave pool a second thought...I was more worried about predictors or her flying over our 6 ft fence!
