**Warning*** yucky graphic pics! Good news! Update on Page 11!!!!!!

I have gone over ILT over and over as there is a breeder in my area that has sent out birds and spread this disease all over the country as well as the county.

I see someone has posted some info while I am typing. You could have acquired this from birds you recently got, (highly unlikely from day old chicks) or some you purchased a few months ago.

If you have oxine, you can flush the nasal passages and eyes with a mixture of it. I think someone was pming you to tell you how to flush. If you haven't gotten info on doing that there is a topic about it on the featherfanciers website. (Peter Brown)

It is common when chickens are sick for it to affect their eyes. Yours is definitely sick. By all means isolate him and start him on water soluble Tylan if you have it, or another similar antibiotic. If you can't get anything right away besides Terramycin (lots of areas that's all that's sold in farm stores), then use that, 4 tbsp per gallon, or even a little more per gallon. For his eyes you can rinse them with people eye wash, then use a clean qtip to apply terramycin eye ointment around the eye and across the lid if it's closed. Do that twice a day. If you don't have the ointment you can use the terramycin water he's drinking as an eyewash, but the ointment works better and they think it feels good. It is important to act quickly. Keep an eye on the rest of the flock. If you go around staring at them you will never be able to tell they are sick, until they are really sick, because they are good at concealing symptoms. When you're feeding them or whatever watch them out of your peripheral vision to make sure none are acting unusually quiet, or not eating. www.firststatevetsupply.com sells stronger eyedrops for the eyes and you can get Tylan and other meds through them, too.

Wow, there are a lot of people responding to this post! We had ILT in our flock, a year or two ago, it was devastating. But most of our birds lived, because we vaccinated them with ILT vaccine while they were sick. This worked. You have to get the right kind of vaccine ( 1stState sells it) it is easy to use, an eyedrop. With this vaccine, they will NOT be carriers of the disease if they recover. And for some weird reason it helps them recover. In some states, they will require you to cull your whole flock if the flock has ILT. Fortunately, Ohio does not; the State vets were very good and worked with us to help us get through it. Also, get some Oxine and disinfect with that asap, and as much as possible. You can even spray the birds with it and put a few drops in their drinking water to disinfect the water.

I am so very sorry your Harley is sick. Hopefully, it will just be a sinus infection.

You are in my thoughts and prayer's.

Oh, also, since you are in Ohio I will tell you; if you have ILT (which, if your roo dies, you should have a necropsy to find out)..the State will quarantine you. This does not mean that they go around putting up signs or articles in the paper. It just means you can't distribute any birds, or allow any one else on your farm who doesn't take proper sanitary precautions. And you shouldn't be doing that anyway. They will come and take an inventory of your birds and instruct you on proper procedures to use around them. That's all they really do, then at the end of the quarantine they give you a cert saying you're released from quarantine. When it happened to us, we found it to be a learning experience and were grateful for all the free advice from the State vets. Peter Brown (at 1st State) is a great resource too...he saved us. Good luck to you and please let us know what you find out.

I sent him an e-mail. Thank you very much for the info.

Call that telephone number too and leave a message and that you have sent an email and that you are the one that dlhunicorn (Diana) emailed him about ...be sure to leave your telephone number.
ETA: It might also be prudent to get a more recent photo and one that shows a close up of his face. Post that here in this thread as I sent him a link.
