If you buy chicks from tractor supply BE CARFUL! Inspect each chick carefully!!! They never get me the right breeds and all the chicks are always half dead when i get them. So make sure to look up the breed and compare. I find everyone at my Tractor supply is very very lazy! The chicks never have enough food or water. They always have pasty butt! Then they wonder why the chicks die! Give me your thoughts on your local tractor supply or feed store.

I feel like I'm responsible! For these dying chicks should i try to email them with tips to take care of the chicks.

My TSC does a great job as far as caring for chicks, ducklings, turkey poults, and keets, but breed identification is frequently incorrect.

I love my local TSC the manager takes care of the chicks himself. Lots of them show up to him from the hatchery half dead or with pasty butt... I have brought many of these home. The hatchery is always sending him the wrong chicks so usually he catches me whenever I’m in the store to take them home because he doesn’t want to sell unknown breeds to anyone else but us.

Another local tractor supply is very good with the chicks as well.

Whenever I get chicks from TSC I always give them vitamins, electrolytes, and supplements in their waterer to make sure they recover from being shipped.

Most chicks aren’t doing good because of the shipping from the hatchery not TSC.

Same here. There a a couple of older farm ladies that work at mine that really take good care of the birds while under their care. They do however mix them up and move them about to the point unless you know what the chick is what it says on the signs is a gamble.

The newest and closest one to me. Was built about 2 years ago. Everyone there is lazy! Other tractor supplys in the area are beter. But still tgey are not very good.

Yeah, the lady who takes care of the fowl at our local TSC has chickens of her own. We chit chat every now and then when I go in there. She tried to talk me getting a few Bantam chicks they had today actually lol.
But she seems to take good care of them and doesn’t just put them in the tub and walk away. I’ve seen her before hovering over the chicken area keeping an eye on them before.

I have never experienced buying chicks from Tractor Supply, but I do know that I had to mention to them that one of their chicks was struggling and needed to be moved or it was going to be crushed by the others. They first questioned me then realized they needed to take it out. This was after I told another person they had a dead chicken in another container. The guy looked at me and said “Is it dead or just sleeping?” I said “Pretty sure it’s dead.”
I have owned chickens for over 10 years. I don’t know everything (far from it), but pretty sure I can spot a chicken not acting normal. I get the impression they weren’t as concerned about each individual chicken like everyone on this forum is.
I buy my chicks from our local feed store. They really have a nice set up (aerated stacked brooder boxes with the feed trays on the outside edges) when the chicks come in. Very clean.
