!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!

My local feed store is the only place I will get our chicks. The local TSC doesn't seem to care for them, breeds are often mixed together. Normally not much water and what is there is dirty and appears to have been that way for a long time, food is minimal. Most of the staff is kinda young and seems like its just another product to sell ...its hard to get good help anymore. My 2 cents worth.
I have the same problem. But thh worst of the staff is in her 3ps to 40s. She HATES her job and is very rude to everyone around her. What im gonna do is compliant to management about how the live stock is being treated. But i kinda of doubt that will do a thing.

If you buy chicks from tractor supply BE CARFUL! Inspect each chick carefully!!! They never get me the right breeds and all the chicks are always half dead when i get them. So make sure to look up the breed and compare. I find everyone at my Tractor supply is very very lazy! The chicks never have enough food or water. They always have pasty butt! Then they wonder why the chicks die! Give me your thoughts on your local tractor supply or feed store.
I got 36 chicks from tractor suppy. Got 6 "jersey giants" turns out they were austarlorps. Americana is mislabeled, they gave easter eggers instead. Got one chicken with a hormonal imbalance and porous eggs that can't hatch and a special rooster. One of the other roosters acted like he was abused, limping when we first got him, was way older than the other chicks and screamed whenever we touched him. Another was born with a respiratory issue.

They just don't take care of them like they should. Its animal abuse.

They even put them in drafty areas, heat lamps can't do everything and don't tell buyers to put them under heat lamps immediately. So the people will buy chicks, see a movie, go shopping, and then go home. :barnie
And they don't real you how to properly care for them so people will buy them as presents and end up killing them.

I even seen this one youtuber raising 3 chicks with a rabbit in a small hutch. And I think most are roosters. Impulsive buys. And lets not forget gifts, gifts, and gifts. Just like the wrapping, soon to be bored of and trashed.:he

I totally agree! This one woman came up to me and asked if we could "split" a purchase because the minimum was 6 chicks. She said "Im getting my a chick for my niece for Easter." I got so mad and flat out refused to to "split" a purchase and bought my own chicks with out giving any to the woman. I am so angry just thinking of it. :he

I've gotten supplies from TSC when they sell larger volume packages of things than the local independent feed stores. But when I'm ordering chickens I get them from My Pet Chicken.

Other hatcheries are probably as reliable but my experience has been limited to MPC. The point is, despite the fact that it's not an instantaneous purchase and my chicks get shipped into a HOT environment, I get healthy chicks that are what I wanted and they stand behind the quality, sex and health of the birds. My exchanges with them are very personal and responsive. They know their business and it's the same folks every time.

I like that. Everybody should do it the way that suits them but I'd encourage you to think about hatcheries who deal with chicks as their primary business and take it very seriously instead of as a sideline to hundreds of other things. ...that might have higher profit margins.

Some people. :barnie That chick, if it survived would of been lonely and living by itself or raised in the house, would poop eveywhere and would get thrown out to live a sad life and die within the week, alone. Like many impulsivity bought chicks every year.

I agree hatcheries are the best option. But sometimes tractor supply is just easier.
