Quote: Dusk heard something woving behind him and whirled to face him, a low, angry growl sounding from her throat.
Dusk looked as though his attack might hit her, but she somersaulted at the last moment, flipping over him and landing on her paws. A sharp crack and searing pain made her realize that her move had been a poor one, indeed! Falling to the ground and yowling with pain, she saw that blood gushed from her leg and stained the grass crimson, a bone jutting out, it's end pointed and deadly.Bunching its legs, the tom lunged for her with a furious yowl.
Dusk writhed in her blood, which was steadily soaking into her fur. There was no hope for her now; nothing short of a medical cat with great skill and the mercy of this blue tom could save her. She looked into his eyes, hers no longer burning with rage but flooded with fear, and their gazes locked. She let out a tormented howl of pain and laid her head down. It would be better if the tom killed her, she thought. That way she wouldn't die a painful death. The blue tom yowled a jeer, pacing around her in a steady circle.
Dusk stared up at the tom with eyed that were glazed over. In a few moments, she would pass out. Her body trembled as the tom circled her, taunting and jeering at her before making the final attack, one that would be the death of her. Dusk's body shuddered and the bleeding was still as bad as before. Finally, she could remain conscious no longer. Just before her eyes slid shut, she saw Thornclaw leap to her protection, and she prayed to Starclan that the cat wouldn't get hurt or killed defending her. Then everything went black. The tom made his way over to her, his gaze holding no compassion or sympathy, but pure evil. Towering over her triumphantly, he was seconds away from performing the killing bite when, out of the blue, Thornclaw flew out of the bushes with a yowl. The blue tom and Thornclaw fought fiercely.
Dusk's unconsciousness had only lasted a few minutes and she had, by now, regained consciousness. Blinking her huge yellow eyes, she meowed, "Thanks for saving me," but realized that the cat that had carried her was gone. She knew it was Thornclaw by the scent, but wondered where the cat had gone.Giving the tom a fierce claw on the throat, Thornclaw sent the blue tom yowling into the bushes. He looked at Dusk, and was just about to ask if she was alright, having not seen her broken leg, then saw she was unconscious. Nosing her onto his back, he took her to a quieter, hidden place in the woods, as the camp was in a state of utter pandemonium now. Having been the medicine cat's apprentice when he was younger, he set off to find some herbs.
