Sorry that it has been so long that you posted. Where do you live? That could be canker, a protozoan infection. Have you seen any cases of fowl pox lately, which is a virus spread by mosquitoes? It can cause brown scabs about the face and comb, but also can cause yellow patches inside the mouth and throat. Canker, an infectious disease may be more likely. It is treated with metronidazole (Flagyl, FishZole) which are available from a vet and online from fish and pigeon suppliers. Dosage is 250 mg daily split into 2 doses, for 5 days.Here is some info about both:
I have this on one of my golden cuckoo marans. Sometimes she runs into things and it breaks open and bleeds. She is totally healthy otherwise, active, eats, drinks, and is one of the most outgoing chickens. I just assumed it was some deformation or wart without considering the possibility that it could be harmful... I'd love any other insight about this. Especially Kara1015, you had birds die because of this?
