Hello! I have seen other birds posted with this exact issue before but haven’t seen any kind of follow up from the OP’s. Any idea what this growth is on my splash Marans beak? It doesn’t bother her… it’s very hard but has a “plug” on it like a scab. I want to say a little abscess? But before I go poking I’d like to see what you think.

Yes, that is a common spot for an injury that may form a little abscess or sore. Some think it can also be a virus. Personally, I would leave it alone until it drops off. Look around for any sharp areas the chicken is possibly sticking it’s beak into, such as a sharp feeder or wire fencing.

She’s been free ranging lots so it’s anyone’s guess. If you think I should leave it then I will! She doesn’t seem bothered at all.

Nothings really changed- not bigger or smaller or redder. Still leave it or do you think it needs drained?

Hi! Older post sorry but I'm curious to know if this went away? Got bigger or caused any issues? I have a 12 week old orpington pullet with the same looking growth, occasionally scabs from bumping it but no other apparent issues! IMG_8464.jpeg IMG_8463.jpeg

If you have chicken wire, that may be where she has injured her beak by poking her beak through it. Sharp feeders occasionally will cause that as well. Betadine or povidone iodine can be applied to it to help it heal.
