What is your location? Two things that can cause bumps on a baby chick are fowl pox and insect bites (ants, etc.) Fowl pox is much harder on chicks, since the mosquito bites that transmit it can cause the face to swell, which may impair vision seeing food and water or blocking nostrils. Sorry for your loss.

We live in a rural area on a farm!I noticed the chicks scratching themselves

Welcome to BYC @Dot Willems sorry you're having problems.

We live in a rural area on a farm!
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

We have a Warm{ sometimes hot} climate usually dry but we had lots of rain in the past 2 weeks. We Live in Limpopo province South Africa. The chickens free range .They are not cooped up.Only at night. With enough space per chick[en]
Coops are built with high roofs.6Ft

Were they sneezing before the lesions or with them? Was there a gray discharge that turned yellow? Or was there never any discharge? In any case, most of what the lesions could be adds up to something very infectious. Have you lost other chickens to this?
