Not focusing on opossums- just was the direction I was pointed in by the fact that only the belly cavity was eaten on the birds, the rest of the bird was undisturbed-though I was also told mink will kill the same way. I have nothing against them, and as I said, never considered them an actual threat until now. The ducks and geese were only penned at night, not locked up, so a predator gaining entrance was not an issue, they could, and did, walk right in. My error in judgement thinking the geese and goats, along with our dog and cats would be deterrent enough to keep predators away from the ducks. We have since constructed a predator proof pen, and have been setting the trap immediately outside the pen in the hopes the critter would come back, but nothing yet.
