Was she malpositioned? (Happy ending)

She’s now 75% out of her egg with no sign of a yolk sac still to be absorbed and all tiny bleeds controlled easily, so it’s a happy ending for my day 23 chick that was struggling in the thickest membrane.
She hadn’t managed to internally pip but somehow ended up in her air sac last night (so I thought she had pipped) - was she malpositioned? Her leg seemed to be over her head.
She is my first ever hatch and she is glorious! :love

…and here she is now! She had her leg caught in the tightest membrane “rope”, she needed cool boiled water applying every half hour or so to other bits of membrane that were closing over her, she had one dried bit of membrane over one eye that she then couldn’t open… it’s been a membraney journey!
Does anyone think from my first pic that she was malpositioned? She had really struggled to make any progress and she had sort of fallen into the air sac without pipping that wretched membrane. She’s super strong now but couldn’t have pushed through on her own, I don’t think.

What a cutie! Great job on the assist! Sounds like she was on the opposite end from the air cell.

Ah - that would make sense. Here she (he?) is now, trying to keep cool in our heat. She’s lovely 🥰

That’s how I feel now, too. I’ve learnt the importance of keeping those membranes damp, though - I lost one to shrink-wrapping. It was amazing how the process just works itself out - I could see the blood vessels withdraw, the chick absorb the yolk - it would have been such a shame to lose her. But it was hours of vigilance and patience and dabbings of cooled, boiled water! Here she is just out the shell, all tired and out of harm’s way!

…and with her incubator-mates (and stuffed toy) at a few days old 🥰
