OK I need some ideas of what may have happened. I have 2 inch poultry wire over my banty run. The wire is normally about 3' off the ground. But when we got home from town today the wire was about a foot off the ground. The wire had a large depression about 2' across and in that there were 2 deeper indents about the size of a tennis ball. There was also a basket ball size hole off to the side of the depression. All the banties are there and seem fine.
I have my suspisions what did this but am looking for other ideas what it might be.

Sounds to me like you had a coon or similar predator visit your run. I'm not sure a bird of prey could do that kind of damage. Whatever it was, it had some weight too it!

Hope you can make repairs and keep it out. I'm sure whatever it was will be back!

All I can say is you got lucky this time!

Sure a large bird could do that, but would it?

Incredible eye sight would turn a bird of prey out from a dive when confronted with wire. If for some inexplicable reason you had a near sighted bird of prey impact that hard there would be feathers embedded in the wire if not parts of the bird!
