i just noticed this today and i dont know if its from mites or not...if it is please tell me what to do...i have 7 dust but i dont know how to use it on my birds...that and im scared to...i asked my mom to buy it and she told me its some really strong and dangerous stuf...so im pretty much terrified to use it...

i recently bought some birds and one of the hens looks well almost naked because she has no feathers on her back at all and the feathers that she does have are really gross looking...someone help please...i have heard of putting 7 dust in their dusting dirt but i cant do that right now because of the snow...

duck&chickencrazy :

no it wasnt from the roo, i only have one roo and about 20 hens and i never see them mating...

Just because you don't see them does not me they are not. It only takes 4 seconds and the deed is done.

Looks like roo or a fight where one grabbed her back feathers causing injury.

As for one roo causing damage to girls... I had one roo and 20+ hens... and he sure had his favorites. Two were bald, the rest untouched. The only eggs that were fertile? The ones which were bald.

In general, a good roo who does not see you as under him, will avoid mating his girls in your presence as he thinks you are top roo that shouldn't be messed with.

yes i know how quickly its done...but i am positive its not from the roo because after i noticed this on my hen i looked over the rest of my birds and he was missing feathers and kinda bloody at the base of his tail...kinda like she was

i have no idea of what she is...lol but yes i agree she is very pretty...i have 2 like her...

Hmmm...well it looks like an attack of some kind to me. So if the rooster is innocent, and also injured, is it possible that something grabbed HER, and then he was trying to defend and something got ahold of him????

could the other hens be pecking if there was a small cut the other hens coudlve noticed and opened it up more? ive had mites on my bird before and other than itching terribly my birds NEVER looke like this looks like some other kind of a pest like a very roostery roo:)
