So as I was washing eggs this morning I got to thinking about how our hot water has salt in it from the water softener. Will this affect the eggs? Should I boil the water instead? Our cold water is just well water so no additives.

My water goes through the softener as well. It won't hurt the eggs, after all we drink it right? I just wipe mine off with a moistened paper towel only if they have dirt on them. Otherwise I leave the bloom on and explain what the bloom is/does to my customers.

how's your blood pressure?

If you have a water softner that uses salt, then your tap water is loaded with salt, its a 1:1 ion exchange to remove the calcium.
So you, your pets or chickens should not be given water softner water. Potassium water softners are bad too.

Only my hot water goes through. But I am washing my eggs with the hot water. My cold water is straight from the well.

My BP usually runs around 90's/60's.

One of the other posts mentioned only washing in cool water because the warm water brings the egg to the shell and ... i don't know. But there was a reason for it which was very logical. Anyway, it said to only wash in cool water.
