Washing eggs...

Now that's interesting, b/c there's a study out there that says that closing the vents through day 10 (limiting O2) actually increases chick strength and hatch rate. Don't you go putting all this stuff in my head. It will keep me up all night with brain cramps!

Ask a "simple" question...

Thanks for the replies! Seems like there is plenty of success with both washing and non washing. Everyone seems to stay away from badly soiled eggs.

The O2 has a bigger impact in early develolment. I think the study i mentioned was through day 8 or so...
 
I try not to ever wash an egg, this egg is a WCBP egg, first one, hen laid in the snow. it was all dirty, damp and bloody. I used damp cloth for bloody sections dry cloth to rub off the rest. It is in incubator. I don't know if it is fertile.
 
Interesting.
I have heard of some people using Oxine dips to help prevent illness in their flocks from shipped hatching eggs.
