Silverdale
Hello, my name is Jan.

I live in Silverdale, that's just north of Bremerton WA.

I have never raised any chickens before, but have read lots of articles and read lots of forums. I've talked to friends and co-workers that have or have had chickens before. I'm trying to get all my home work done before I purchase my first. I want to start out with some Pullets so I can get right into the eggs. Perhaps latter I can raise some chicks, but for now, I don't want to wait.

I recently moved to a small 2 1/2 acre farm that is very close to town. In fact it so close, that we can walk out our back yard and were in town in 2 min. But you would never know the farm was there. On the farm was an old chicken coop. I have converted it to a more modern style, and is ready for my chickens. I built easy access doors to the layer beds so you don't have to enter the coop, and have an automatic watering system. Basically its a coop within a coop. Inside, the floor layout is 6 ft X 20 ft. and outside within the pen, its 12ft X 24 ft and well fenced and covered. They will have lots of room to roam. Plus I'm thinking of building one of those chicken tractors so I can get them used to free ranging. Only problem is, I just can't let'em go free range, cause of the Osprey's and Eagles that fly overhead all the time.

I am hoping in getting some Red Star Chicken pullets to start with.

I have raised in the past, pigs and rabbits. But now that I have a coop, I want some chickens.
