Illia,

Nope, you're not alone. We're up on Whidbey and covered in snow. And bonus: EARTHQUAKE! As if my chickens weren't ticked off enough with the cold Nature has to go rattle them a bit.

I've got heat lamps set up in both coops (main one and quarantine) to keep the fluffy darlings and the water from freezing. Even had to pop a bucket warmer in the one of the duck waterers so the ducks have water to drink. They don't mind the cold so much, but aren't fond of being snowed on so they are hanging out in the nesting shed.

Thank you so much....I am looking forward to making this.

Please PM and tell her, she was awfully nice coming on to give us her recipe...did Terrie post her suet recipe ?
Did I miss it ?
She can get really busy...I will look again tomorrow, hunker down and stay warm !

Thanks....DH just asked me if I was "prepared to lose ducks & geese tonight?"

I hope not...there's not much I can do with 4 Sebbies and 10+ scovies, though...they have shelter, lots of dry straw and I set up a wall of straw bales to block the wind. I also stretched a tarp across the north end of their pens to help block some wind but it's BAD out there!!!

yay its soo cold outside that all my chickens are in the coop for once.... most are crowded in the one with heat lamps and a few are in the one without.... i need my bf to get here soon with the extension cords and another heat lamp for that coop.... the chickens in the new coop have no heat or water.... the waterer is frozen to the ground.... tried kicking it out.... need to put that new waterer in once the cord is here.... supposed to get down to 9 tonight got 3 eggs (actually 4 but one was laid outside, frozen, i stepped on it and it was solid, though freezing did crack it, i threw it at the highway and it bounced....) out of 78 chickens... down from 30 eggs the day before..... let them out today and none of them were out.... so now they are actually all in i got a plan. keep them locked in during thanksgiving. catch some, clip their wings and transfer some to the other coop and have them get programmed that the coop is where they roost, not the trees..... maybe then mr. coon will have no more luck at my chickens.... its snowed about 2 inches now.....

Good Luck ! That is alot of wings to clip, and remember, with no flight they may be more vulnerable than before !
You really need to catch that racoon (or whatever it is)
DH has seen now, several times, a weaselly critter (hump in the middle, lopey gait) but small and brownish...run across the road out front...smaller than a ferret, but he said it acted more cat-like...? I have no idea, I have never seen 'it' and have no idea what it may be ? Any ideas ?

Poor babies !!!

FIL just called--he got an "alert" that we're probably losing power tonight (he works for the power company and will be on-call). My DH is climbing down in the well to put a lamp up to hopefully prevent it from freezing...and I'm thinking about going out to catch all of my waterfowl to put them in my horse trailer...might be the only chance at survival they have!!!
