I cooked a 18 pound turkey and it is time to make a big pot of soup !
We are going to my folk's in Elma, but I always cook a bird here too cuz we have to have the leftovers and hot turkey sandwiches !!!
One year I didn't cook..we went to DH's Mom's...I brought the mashed potatoes, and when we got home, with a dab of my cold mashed potatoes, and the fridge was bare it was such a let down!!!
So, I have a complete gluten free (but rolls for DH) thanksgiving meal here regardless of where we go for the holiday.
Gotta have hot turkey sandwiches...smotherd in giblet gravy, carnberry sauce on the side !!

We didn't get much new snow overnight. We have about 4" and it is 13*. Neighbor just got home from Longview and said the roads are a mess. I guess Longview got rain yesterday and then cold last night.
We are supposed to go to town today but I am going to look things over well before I decide if we are going. If I can do ok in four wheel drive fine but if it comes time put chains on the front of the truck it is time to stay home.

I should have said that was with the wind chill factor....I, personally, don't care if it is with or without....that is too bloody cold. I hope that you fared well last night. The weather is all that they have been talking about this morning.

The coast (sorry, anyone West of the Mtns is coast to me) looks like a real mess. They are showing a big wreck on I5 right now.

The wind, last night, blew the top off my run.....it was only landscaping material, but it was the "commercial" type. A bit tougher, but I guess 20+ mph winds is just too much for it.

I also made a big pot of bird suet blocks this morning. Set it outside in the forms and I think they will harden rather fast. I do believe we are up to around 10 here.

I agree. Either it is 4 degrees or it is -21. Don't even mention windchill. How cold is it? Right?

You and Heather both spoke about giving corn....you mean like cracked corn? Does this help them? Mine have layer and scratch....should I go and get some corn too? Would this help them? We got 9 degrees this morning with 20+ mph winds..making it around -9.

We are sitting at -5 outside right now!!! Yes...whole or cracked. I give both...the smaller birds will even eat the whole stuff. I just buy the bags at Wally World and mix it into their layer feed (which does have some, although not much cracked corn in already). The geese LOVE the stuff and it really seems to help keep them warm.

Where do you buy your feed? You should get it from Monte. If you buy enough (which you might not able to but I'd hook you up) it's only .18 a pound. That's with a minimum of 360lbs though, I think...which lasts me about a month in cold weather. The downside is that it will spoil before a smaller flock can use that much...but I just have my MIL give me one her garbage cans that she stores feed in and then I take it down there for her and she pays me back. Each can holds about 150-175lbs I think...
