He is convinced that he can hook a hose to the tail pipe of the van and shoot it at the washing machine motor and it will defrost "quickly".

When anything is frozen best way is a slow thaw.
Take your best hair dryer and thaw it slowly.
If your washer in a shed that is closed in start out with a space heater for a while then concentrated heat with hair dryer.​

I wish we had something like that... I was thinking about dividing up the goat kennel--it's a dog kennel under cover--and putting the ducks in there. Right now everyone crams in the henhouse at night, and I fear to put water in there for the chickens because ducks make such a wet mess. But since they don't seem to mind the cold so much, they would be good with the goats, and I could leave the chickens locked up in their house till it is safe for them to come out. Right now everyone is pecking thru the straw in the sun...

*sigh* I am so worried to be gone this week. eeee.

My chickens, turkeys geese used them. Ducks should have no problem. Put 3 nipples on the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket and use a livestock tank heater to keep from freezing. No more messy water.

Snow remains a constant 32 degrees. They were insulated under the snow from the wind chill.

I went to check on the girls this morning and realized Ginger wasn't in the coop. I checked all the trees in the backyard, but no Ginger. I start giving the treat call, still no Ginger. I figured I'd find her body when the snow melts. I turn to go in, and there she is on the fence. She must have been in the front yard. I'll be happy when she's too big to fly over the fence. I'm not worried about the girls in the coop any more. If Ginger survived outside, they certainly are okay inside.

its 18 out today.... i will check the chickens later tonight. they had tons of water last night and they spilled all their food... so they can dig for their food today... keep them entertained while cooped in.

tonight going to clip some of their wings and put a balanced # of chickens in each coop. and leave them locked in while gone to program them that the coop is the place to roost.

bf was awesome last night, had bought more heat lamps and extension cords. he lined the inside of the kennel with the extension cords so now no more playing limbo when walking in the coop.

i think one chicken is molting and the other has been favored by the roosters too much. i feel sorry for the RIR cos it has hardly any feathers only quils on its back when it 'fluffs up' atleast it is under the heat lamp.

parents took my car to les schwab to get new tires on my car. mine are no good in snow, wore them out. my drive back to pullman sunday should be safer now.... no hydroplaning in slush.....

I will go get him to do that.
He just came in and said it is almost thawed out..and he will dump anti freeze in and that should help unfreeze and water left in there...thanks Greg! Hope you are keeping warm up there !!

Maybe they do do that in Poland, like it is instinctive to hide from the windchill !
Maybe not so stupid as we thought ?

We had a rooster wander onto our prperty from who knows where last Jan when it was in the 10s and 20s...this bird could barely crow, he was young, and stayed in a tree near my hen coops.
He was fine, I fed him and put water out and eventually befriended him.
He was not allowed in but got close enough for us to get a good look at him.
He was a mutt, and never had any frostbite !
He had a very high standard comb and not a speck of frostbite !
He eventually wandered down the road elsewhere, we could hear his squeeky crow further down the road.
