Sorry, Jen, I took my tea and stepped onto the back step and looked up....No stars. All cloudy tonight, but that means it will be a bit warmer than it has been.

But, I'm one of the few. . .

First I'll say just to help, they're called "Blue Laced Red" (because the blue laces the red)

The pullet is honestly not the best looking. One thing to keep in mind is that Blue Laced Red is pretty much a "hobby" color of Wyandotte in which most people breed them just for a pretty factor and never for a "good quality" factor, so your chances of a good hen anyway are slim unless you research. Her lacing is very poor, her back has a lot of color smudging, and she has too "golden" of a neck. Her tail also tapers to a fine tip. It should be wider, fluffier/poofier looking. Also, I hope her legs aren't pink as they look in the photos.

The rooster is much better looking than the hen. Although both lack the moderately hooded appearance around the eyes, he's got better lacing and so far it looks like a better body, too, but he still needs to look a lot more like a "big hunk" - his neck should be alittle shorter, his back should be really short, his tail should sweep up slightly.

Hope I didn't sound rude, I wanted to be honest and helpful.

Since blue laced red Wyandottes are so popular because of their striking color, they're overbred for profit to look like anything and everything, and most of the time are too small, very poorly laced, and have typical "production type" bodies. The goal in most cases is simply to sell sell sell, keeping only the blue and red coloration in mind.

Which reminds me, your rooster there is a "splash laced red," not blue laced red. Only one allele different from the hen, but still, just letting you know. He'll produce a 50% chance of offspring that look like him, and 50% that look like the hen.

I don't live in Sequim but know plenty of its tragic downfall. . . . The last thing it needs are more residents. It used to be a quaint little agricultural, rural town, and now all the farms are being taken over by Walmart, Costco, Starbucks, McDonald's, Holiday Inn, you name it.

And yes, it is an expensive place, mostly condos and retirement homes for the rich and retired.

The thing about its "rainshadow" is that it is extremely varied. Move just a couple miles and your annual rainfall changes drastically. One thing is for sure though - You still get a lot of overcast skies.
