I got this piece 60' round free on CL and thought I could use it for top cover of my runs. But may be using some for garden too.
Also if any of ya need any yellow poly rope this net had 6 pieces of 3/4" x 70'+/- and one 1" by 188+/- . I don't need this big rope trade me out of it.

Anyone else getting nasty winds this evening?

DH does not have his car back yet, and the streets here have started to flood again. Poor guy has to walk most of the way home from the bus stop (5 miles) in the wind and the rain, and through the flooded street. No raincoat, toting his laptop (which luckily seems to be working). He was about half way home when I found him. Normally I pick him up from the stop at 6:45 , but DS had his wrestling finals in another town, and they ran late. Neither one of us has a cell phone. Maybe it's time to get one.

SadeSue. I would start with chicks especially with a bird dog.
You bring in 6 month hens you have already got $$$ invested.
This way if the dog messes up your cost is low.

Yet.....................
The main reason with chicks is because then you take the chick and let the dog sniff it.
Much easier to control a chick in that situation.
Some dogs if you get the curiosity out of the way they are good to go.
Bird dogs this isn't good enough.

Let the dog know in your best don't mess with me voice the chick is yours.

Sit with the chick on your lap right with the dog next to you.

Show the dog that chick is YOUR PROPERTY and it's IMPORTANT to you.
No need to do this with all your chicks.
But it's important to get the point across by spending time with the chick that the dog now knows just like when you add a baby to the family you are not to mess with it, you just got taken down the ladder.
The dog has to understand those chicks come first.

I'm not saying this will work every time but lets put it this way.
My dog chases birds. Catches some of them.
I knew when I got chicks that dog had to understand this is MY PROPERTY now so you are to never even dream about messing with it.

My dog never has because just like a wolf in a pack he learned his place in the pack of animals on the property.
Same situation.

I just wish my two teenagers were as easy! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

We have the family plan with AT&T.
I'm slowly removing us from the two year contracts by buying used phones off Craigslist or garage sales.

I was very surprised to go into AT&T last week when my Wife couldn't find her charger for an old phone to see if they had one in back.
No way going to pay 30.00 for a charger.

No charger there but come to find out they now have two phones available with no 2 year contract.

Paid $16.41 walked out of there with a flip phone.
Big easy to read numbers which the Wife wanted.
She wanted flip phone so it doesn't accidently dial a number in her purse.
She doesn't care for all the bells and whistles phones.
Neither do I.

So even if you had to sign 2 year agreement for a minute plan you could get a cheap phone and after the two years be free from not being able to switch providers if you desired.

Thanks for the cell phone info guys! I had a phone a few years back, but was upset about the cost and poor reception. I was also annoyed by friends who'd call and talk about nothing of interest just to kill time. When the charger fell apart, I never replaced it. I like the idea of having pre-paid minutes. I just wont tell anyone when I get the phone!

I used the TRACFONE for many years and had good luck with it. The nice thing is you can buy fones at walmart and other places cheap and then just buy air time cards also at WM and there is no contract.. If you are not going to use it a lot these are a good deal. And if ya don't want it or can't afford it anymore ya just don't buy more air time. However if ya are going to use it a lot then not a good plan. There are many others that are similar this is just the one that I have used.

They do come apart. Those are just stacked on top of each other. I need to check with my cousin when he returns from vacation next week to see if we're clearing all of them out. If so, I believe they are spoken for per the PM's I received earlier this evening.

More good advice Greg, thank you. This is similar to the way I introduce him to all new animals in the house, like our foster kittens, foster bunnies. He gets to be curious about them as they sit in our lap, while we tell him these are my nice friends. When he gets too excited, we have him "settle", so he calms down and can visit with them again. It's worked well so far. I'm optimistic he'll get the message with the chicks too, but cautious because I know that if they move too quickly around him he could get caught up in the action and want to chase or retrieve. He does have that soft mouth though. Once when I was getting ready to bake cookies, he stole 2 cubes of butter off the stove and I later found them downstairs on the patio still in their wrappers, with nary a mark on 'em. I'm not sure what he planned to do with them and it's the only time he's ever counter surfed. I think he planned to share them with our Pomeranian.
