Last Friday I was letting my flock roam in the pasture. I was standing by the barn watching them. They got about 100 yards from me and a coyote came out of the woods and got one of my Dalawares. The only time I have lost a girl is when they have been free ranging and I WASN'T paying attention to them. MY run which is 65ft X 50ft. Has THREE strands of electric fence around it. I know I have at least THREE coyotes and TWO Bobcats that make the rounds through our pastures. I'm Pretty sure they ALL have had a run in with the electric fence. They keep their distance from my coop and run.

Nah, I myself really want to get into hunting and take one down from our own backyard myself. . . . But honestly I wouldn't do bowhunting on game or even let anyone else do it on my property unless I was for sure that I or the other person was an actual professional and expert at it. Last time I saw evidence of bowhunting out here, it was through a live bull elk running through a neighbors' yard with bow straight through its gut, flesh falling out and all. . . Horrible. I've seen plenty game bowhunting too and really was NOT impressed. I love bows more than guns by a longshot, but when it comes to hunting for food. . . Guns can work much better until one is truly a good aim.

Thanks for all your support. And she has Puppy Strangles. She started treatment tonight. She should pull through, though there's no guarantee. Hopefully she will start feeling better in the next 4-5 days. We've taken off her collar in case she has more lymph/neck swelling. In my 8yr as a vet tech I don't remember seeing a case of this. The Vet's only seen 2-3 cases before this, one with long term damage, and one fatal... But we're hopeful.

Hi!

Went to the Dr this morning. Not feeling very good and having some digestive issues. Came home and have slept the rest of the day. Trying to make myself stay awake so I can sleep good tonight and be up for work tomorrow.

Illia, sorry about your Ameraucana. Hope she does ok. I've only had experience with sutured wounds after attacks but sounds like most heal with gooping the open wound with an antibiotic ointment.
