I saw on the news today where 2 different McDonalds were run into by cars. Now while I really don't find that funny. What I do find funny is that in both cases nobody can figure out why!! Well that is so simple.... The drivers suffered a Big Mac attack!!!!!

For nesting material we just use local grass hay. If you have to buy it it is cheaper than straw or alfalfa. It is softer than straw and the girls may sample it but they won't eat it up like alfalfa. Of course I kind of cheat cause I just go to the stables and get the hay. Here is another idea when you go to yer favorite feed store ask them if you can get some tailings fron the hay barn. I go to the one up the road and what I get is a mix of orchard grass, alfalfa and straw. We use some for nesting but most of it just gets tossed on the floor for the girlz to dig in. They love the alfalfa and it is mostly leaves (the best part) and very few stems.

The drive is just over 30 miles round trip. What makes it worse for me, is I am partially night blind from an injury to my left eye a few years back... And who else do I have? The only other person in this house is 2. lol I can only take so much child speech. Explaining everything, speaking simply... I need some adult time too.

We built the nest boxes so the eggs can roll-out to the back side following plans posted by "Opa". I only plan on using that feature if I ever get an egg-eater. Until then, I will give them some sort of soft nesting material that they can fluff-up and make a mess out of. I made the nest boxes pretty big too, so they would fit neatly where I wanted them. Since my girls are all used to sharing one big nesting box, I wouldn't be surprised if several will crowd into one box and leave the others empty. Thanks for all your good ideas!

Have you ever wondered why eggs are sold by the dozen?? Well let me fill ya in on the reason eggs are sold by the dozen or 18 pak.
Ya see it started many many years ago. Mrs. & Mr. Carpenter lived way out on the prairie with their son and daughter. On their farm they had 8 hens to produce eggs for the family’s breakfast. Well the son and daughter decided they had had enough of this farm life and living in the middle of nowhere. So they both moved off to the city. With the son gone this meant a lot of extra work for Mr. Carpenter. His old body was tired and couldn’t take the extra stress and Mr. Carpenter had a massive heart attack and died while plowing the field. This left Mrs. Carpenter all alone on the farm and with no family left she ended up with 6 extra eggs a day. Well she decided to take her eggs to town and sell them. But since it was an all day buggy ride to get to town and back. Mrs. Carpenter decided to only take her eggs to town every other day. And that is how eggs came to be sold by the dozen. But then sometimes Mrs. Carpenter would use 6 eggs to do some baking. So then she would go to town on the 3rd day and that is how it came that the store started selling eggs by the dozen or 18 pak.
And how do I know this you wonder? Well that is because Mrs. Carpenter was my Great Great Grandmother.
And now as Paul Harvey would say “and now you know the rest of the story”.
