This is Dusty. She's my Chow /german sheppard mix, 11 years old, and a fat old lady. But she's my 1st baby and I love her dearly. She gets fed 2 small meals a day, minimal / no table scraps "unless my dh sneaks it to her."

Dusty is adorable. I don't feed my crew very many scraps either. I have found that anything but the dog kibbles tends to give the dogs the runs.
My DH is a big push over when it comes to begging dogs. The dogs know not to beg from me, but they sit there staring at DH while he is eating. It is his fault that the dogs beg like that.
I am going to have to check and see if I can find a picture of Berber. She was all black, and was very hard to photograph.
I have never had an overweight pet until one of the Yorkie pups. Chipper looks like he is continuing to gain weight. The last time I weighed him he was 12lbs. I have always been able to free feed all of the dogs, but now I am beginning to think that I may have to change the way I feed all of the dogs. I hate not having food available all the time for the big dog. He is starting to loose weight, and I worry that he won't have any reserves if he were to get sick. But then he could be well with in a normal phase because of how old he is. Also Jax, and Snickers need to be able to eat anytime. They are both on the thin side. I guess I just need to figure out a plan to feed everyone, so that they all maintain a healthy weight.
In my house we have a 4 foot rule. The dogs are not to be within 4 feet of us. They can be at 4'6" away laying down and being good, but no closer. I also discourage direct eye contact with the dogs while we are eating. I have trained my husband to wait until he is completely finished with his meal, before giving them any scraps. I do give my dogs the raw scraps from trimming beef roasts, but they have to work for it.
I have to stay on top of Dusty's training, she used to lose her head when she was younger, and forget everything she had learned when she got excited. I can always tell when I have let her training slip, as she will challenge me, not listen, will chalenge new visitors, and is just a pain to deal with. But when I work with her every day she is as sweet as can be, and very smart. Terrified of brooms and the vacume... Makes cleaning especially fun. lol
