Thanks CR, going to miss meeting you! I know I will love it. Hey, kind of late now but maybe for future, had an idea for the extra sails. Weld a rod to the back of it an make some garden stakes.

That idea is already in the bator. See when we were into the pygmy goats I tried some of this stuff with goats. One of the problems was that there was not the net working like on here. I have a few goat items that I will be taking pics of to show. Keep checking "my page" and look at the ironimagery page on there.

Oh I can help you with the goats stuff, but the goat people I know are dairy goats..

I would like to Nominate Kim (KMHunter) for BYC Person of the Month for April ( march is half gone)
woot.gif

Fridays are Kims day off and usually she likes to sleep in a bit. BUT today she was up at the crack of DAWN so she could make it down to our local feed store to buy FIVE baby chicks for me
clap.gif
. She wanted to be FIRST in line when the doors opened so she could have first pick
yippiechickie.gif
. She even told her DH that he would have to make his own breakfast and pack his own lunch today cause she DIDN'T have time .

She picked me out five very cute little chicks

To show my appreciation to her, I would like to name one of the little girls after her
ya.gif
. But some of you might remember about a year and a half ago I named one of my white leghorns "Kim-bo-weave" after Kim and Cindy (weaveagarden, from Hoquiam). I call her K.C. for short. she has probably been my best over all layer. she lays a extra large to jumbo size egg 5 out of 7 days.

So I have come up with the name " Hunter"

By the way, April is also Kims BIRTHDAY

You know how some women get about telling their age. So I can't say how old she will be

. All I can say is I would LOVE to be 41 again

Thansks again Kim for the lovely babies

So how is the chick doing? Ive had them at the very top and one at the bottom of the egg before.
so I'll have to keep reading to see.

Unfortunately it didn't make it.

But we have had 3 more hatch since then!

WHOA wait wait wait, you trim chickens nails? Yah know I've thought about doing this a million times because they looked yucky but I didn't know people actually did this! So is it just like clipping a dogs nail? They have a quick and everything?

Yup. I actually use dog clippers on mine. You can see the quick on a light colored nail (just like a dog's) and the darker ones are darker. If you doubt your clipping abilities, buy a large grit nail file and use that. It takes longer but it's a good place to start.

I have to trim my Houdans' fifth toes all of the time. They don't get worn off like the others and can curl back and grow into their foot.

if you have bantams-- the scissor style cat/rat nail trimmers work FAB. I feel like I have more control over cutting. I tried using the dog nail trimmers and was afeared of cutting the whole durn toe off! lol!

Howdy to you, too. Are you coming to the poultry show tomorrow in Monroe. Look for the BYC table and meet up.

ditto that!!

see y'all later! I am just waiting for my ride to get here. you should see my front porch.. it's crowing, quacking and clucking... with stuff piled a mile high!! Raspberries, icees, eggs.. chairs.. blah blah blah!!

I tried to grab enough bags for the raspberries--but if whoever wants to take some, you might also make sure to grab a bag as well.... They look nice and healthy. I just stuffed the ones I am keeping in their spots this AM.

for cutting nails on cats at least (and when my chicks need it) -- I use wire-cutter pliers

don't like the spring-loaded type pet nail clippers
don't like the half-moon style clippers sold for cats

both of those seem to shred or compress the nails before they cut; the pliers just CUT --
and you can see what you are doing, much better

Thanks for the kind words everybody!

On a different note, Is there a concession stand there to get food or are people getting take out/delivery/packing from home for lunch? Don't know Monroe at all so it would be nice to know what my options will be for the fam. Thanks!

There might have been one last year but I did not ever find it. I ended up having to drive and get food and then I lost my stellar parking spot.
sad.png
So this year, I'll be hitting the grocery store and filling a cooler with snacks...cheese & crackers, granola bars, bottles of water and stuff so I don't die of starvation but I don't have to leave to get food, either.
lol.png

There is a Dairy Queen at one end of town and several family restaurants.

Anyone bring a traffic cone(s) ? You can then drive off to pick up food for alot of people, and come back to a saved spot.
I am bring a big salad, hard boiled eggs and 2 pounds of prawns and a quart of oysters AND dill sauce we make that is to die for..will need little paper plates & plastic ware/napkins.
I am also bringing raspberry walnut vinergret, my favorite!
DH will probably wander off after some corn dogs or cheese burgers, so I will have extra to share.
Oysters are shucked fresh today in South Bend (hear that Toni???) and I got lemons.
If ya want hot sauce on some ya gotta bring it.
My bottle of hot sauce is a half gallon, too big for the ice chest!
lol.png

Great, we have a Pot Luck going ?

I did not trim MOT's nails, they were fine, he is a baby after all.
He was a super sweetie in the dish pan!
He was so good.
I talk to him and he was so good he never once tried to launch like I thought he would.
I also discovered a cool way to clean mud out of his leg scales....warm water in the water pix and the tiny soft rubber tip..turned it on & washed the crud right out.
He looks so fantastic!
DH says we should spray him with old spice Denali (DH's man spray)
lol.png

I still do not want to EVER do 10 chickens, especially silkies...and isn't it so much easier to wash a duck ??????????
