So, what exactly is Phoenix? I am still learning my birds. He is so pretty.

He's a Chantecler, a very rare breed.

Oh and

everyone. I've been away from the computer, the farm even, almost all day today. I FINALLY purchased myself two Gold Laced Polish who are currently laying, so that will add to my Tolbunt breeding ASAP and I am SOOOO EXCITED!!

Oh, and I now have a brand new, completely private and separate pen for my poor rooster-pecked, beaten, submissive, yet still super friendly Buff Ameraucana cockerel. He's already enjoying his place quite a bit. His own coop, food, water, and just plain space all to his own. Plus it's not muddy like 1/3 of the Bachelor Pad. Ugh. Mud.

if they don't all hatch, see me. I've got appenzeller chicks n eggs to spare once this next batch hatches.

I will remember that. Shipped eggs are always a gamble. These were shipped to Rainwolf's house. Her post office seems gentler than mine.

Thanks SO much to 4,3,1,2 and CL. I called and talked to my friend / rabbit vet, and his recommendation was to trade the little girl for the other male 8 week old that was in with Nick, so I called the breeder and we are meeting up this afternoon to exchange them. It's kind of a bummer, but this male I'm getting was my next choice anyway. So, "Nack" is going to be a chocolate brown male instead of a dilute torti female.

(Yes, that means I'm going to have a chocolate Easter bunny).

Hope DS doesn't bite THIS Easter bunny's ears off! LOL

Welcome from the night crew's chief poster child. What side of the hill are you located on?

Hi! I live 25 miles south west of Yakima. If you drive down I 82 past Yakima and smell something like a dairy, that's us! lol! Outlook is a VERY small town 3 miles from Sunnyside. We have 5.5 acres here, with horses, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, soon to have Muscovy's and I just bought a couple handfuls of mixed cockerels and a new breed called Sagitta. There was another thread on here from boiseburb (think I spelled it right) who bought some too. My boyfriend and I are working our way to self sufficiency and of course I LOVE CHICKENS !! So, I had to get more. My problem is I love them so much I'm not sure I will be able to part with them when the time comes! I was a vet tech so my heart is in saving things. But, I look at our ancestors and tell myself if they could do it so can we!!! I just can't get that close to the food supply!! lol Ok except for my laying flock! lol Anyway, glad to be here and look forward to many future posts and good info and making new friends!

So my "therapist"

Her advice to me was to eat lots of smoked oysters in order to feel better! I feel better! (but am having a serious craving for a man!)
