Weaveagarden,

The little ones are great. I will have a two liter or two ready for him. Let me know when. I really hope you can keep all of your flock and your rooster. I would think that those who had their flock before the changes were made could keep them as long as they didn't add to them. OOPS! hope you don't get caught with these babies! There is one that my oldest has taken a liking to and has named it. When you get them, you'll notice the one Barnevelder with the darkest stripe down its back, it's very friendly and loves to sit on your lap and take a nap. My son has been calling it Gizmo. Maybe if you keep it the name will stick, if not, no worries. I just thought it was cute that he took a liking to one in particular. I am sorry I didn't get pics up, but there is something wrong with my camera. Looks like I will be getting a new one in the near future.

We are 20* as of 8:13pm that is much better than the last few nights when it has been in the teens by now. Yesterday I got a bunch of big punkins and gave em to the girls. They ate some but really got after em today after the sun thawed em a bit more. Our girls seem to be doing good, today we got 12/15. Today I rigged a light in the neighbors coop. She has only been getting 4-6/ 26. On top of the short days her coop and run is shaded all day. I put a 250w/500w QH work light on a timer. We are going to start at 250w and if that doesn't help we can just push the button and go for 500w.
I hope if we get anything falling from the sky it is in a solidified form. If we get rain on this frozen ground it is gonna be slicker than a batch of eels in a bowla snott and nobody will be going anywhere.

today i found my missing Red (rir) i did a head count last night and was missing her.... this morning i decidedd that the chickens will be stuck inside their coop and no more free roaming for a while i found fresh coyote tracks really close..... and while giving the chickens scratch Red appeared out of nowhere. i looked everywhere.... well i am glad she is still here because she is one of the few that are human friendly..... i added another heat lamp to the coop today... now all 3 major roosts are covered and no more hogging of the lamp.
the high today was 22*

i have taken pics of the crick near by. it is frozen over in places and at the mouth of the Wenatchee River (where it meets the Columbia) it is frozen across and big chhunks break off and go into the columbia.... its sooo cool to see the big river froxen.... when it and the crick near my house breaks it will be really noisy.....

Tomorrow if x-mas lighting in Leavenworth. I will be working in the kettle corn booth in the food booth areas..... if anyone of you come to this side of the mountains this weekend, stop by and say hi. i will be next to a pear booth. also enjoy the christmas lighting .... there is only one more weekend left of seeing millions and millions of x-mas lights. oh and gluvine (hot german spiced wine)...

6/9 eggs today....

my rooster is still doing the flamingo dance
today he crowed..... maybe yesterday his squeak and silence is due to the temperature..... maybe there is a limit when it is just too cold for a roosters vocal cords to work right.....

So even though nothing is final yet, I've decided to start downsizing with my roos. I want to offer them only to BYC members if at all possible. What I've got up for grabs (no price, just don't tell me that they're going to end up in the stew pot.) I don't really see the point of putting them in BST, as they're pick up only.

2 White Legorns Foghorn and Leghorn - Hatched 2 week of August
1 Silver Phoenix -Ned- Hatched the second week of August
1Red.. Rooster -Little Red- I'm not sure what he is, but he's about the same age as the other two. RIR maybe
1 EE Rooster -Sasquatch- a bit younger, I want to say hatched in September, or maybe late August. Tailfeathers could probably figure it out.

I'll probably add more to this list. The ones above are up for grabs right now.

The list is up for grabs only if we end up moving

3 Mille Fleur D'Uccles (I think roo/roo/pullet) - September hatch -must go together -claimed pending outcome
2 White Leghorn Pullets.. Sugar and Salt -they should be laying any time now, they're late July babies. They have to go together.-claimed pending outcome
2 EE Pullets -Smokey and Cheetah- Not sure of their hatch date, but should be at POL anytime now -must go together. - -claimed pending outcome
1 EE and 1 Welsummer Pullet - Nessie and Lady- Tailfeathers' Stock, so even though they're pet quality, they're super nice birds. Should be laying by spring.
- -claimed pending outcome

A dozen ducks: 2 KC drakes, 1 Chocolate Runner Drake, 2 KC Hens, 1 CR Hen.... These are mature.. The mature ducks have to go together. I have been getting 2 eggs a day from these guys, even with the low light.
Also, I have ducklings coming next week, 4 KC hens and 2 CR hens. They can probably go with the matures, but could probably be split into pairs as well.
- Claimed pending outcome

We haven't decided yet, but we might put our turkeys up as well. They are Blue Slate, and I believe that they are a pair. The mature ducks and the turkeys are extremely skittish, but will come to you for lettuce occasionally. I would be asking an adoption fee for the Turkeys and Ducks. - Extremely reasonable to BYC members, a fmv for "outsiders"
I'm just trying to avoid the craigslist shuffle, because I know that if a BYC member takes them, even if they end up in the stewpot, that it will quick and humane. (Just don't tell me)

Others that will have to go are the potbellied pigs - Hammy and Daisy. They can NOT be kept together and are not house broken. They're doing fine outside so far, just the darn water bowls freezing. Hammy is a neutered male, approx 16 weeks. Daisy is an unspayed female, about 10 mos. She is pig aggressive, but is very sweet to us, the dogs and the kids. I am asking a fee for them, just to offset the cost of Hammy's neuter.

So if anyone is interested in something off the first list, PM me and you can come pick (except the one phoenix, he's mine

) And if the others come available, I'll let you all know.

i might be interested in the leghorn pullets. more in the mille d flurs.... but i have a question about that. i have a big roo and if i put those 3 in the coop with my flock of 10... would i have 'issues'? or are they young enough to be ignored?
otherwise i would have to just go with 2 laying pullets i lost 2 chickens 2 weeks ago to pushing-shoving- homicidal-notsharing-the-roost-broken-neck-syndrome.......

Okay, whenever my computer wants to stop being retarded..

That's better.

I would imagine it would be in the introduction. They EE roo they're in with right now steps on the poor things, but his feet are so big.. Thats why he's call Sasquatch.
The leghorn's faces haven't gotten too red yet, but they're slowly getting there. Like leghorns can be, they're kind of skittish, but they've been handled from day 1, they're lower on the pecking order too, so integration would be easy with them. LMK, I'll put a reserve. Hopefully I can tell people by the end of next week what's going on, not know is driving me nucking futs!

Hello there!
smile.png

My hubby and I need to get rid of a couple roosters. We don't want them to go into a stew pot but what we don't know can't hurt us. They are great boys to us and they even get along together. I tried to put them on bct but i didn't really want to send them anywhere (pick up only). If anyone is interested just let me know.

1 white silkie.
1 red(ish) silkie.

Donations or swap of eggs would be appreciated (as none of our chickens are laying yet and i'm missing fresh eggs) but not needed. It could be any day now!!! Just wish the eggs were now!

we might eventually need to get rid of 1 cuckoo silkie roo too. Don't want to get rid of all the silkie roos because then there is just one silkie hen left with 3 ameraucanas and 2 welsummers! poor little girl. Any thoughts?

Khyree, does your silkie hen get along with the other girls? I have seen mixed flocks with silkies and standards. Are you going to keep one of the roos for her? You could breed them. Just a thought.
Hey, does anyone know who bought the last bag of food for michael and when? I lost his phone number if anyone has it and can PM me with it. I wanted to see how he was doing on food. I can buy the next bag.

On another note, I am a BAD, BAD, chicken mom! I left the end door to my run open last night, and I had a suprise visit on my back deck from my girls, letting me know how careless I was. I cannot believe I did that! Anything could have gotten in there and killed them. I have left the pop door open so they can go out at 4am when their lights come on, so they were not protected. And the worst thing was, that I had this feeling that I should go check the coop to make sure all was buttoned up, then talked myself out of it because I really am good about closing things up at night, AND it was soooo cold out there. I will double check myself from now on and listen to my gut when it tells me something isn't right.

Have a great day! I will be baking x-mas goodies today.

Washingtonians--if you don't know where your water meter is, go out and find it. Make sure you have any tools (large adjustable crescent wrench, pipe wrench) needed to shut it off and are able to do so. Know where any of your house shut offs are and clear a path if needed to get to them. If you think you might possibly have a frozen pipe somewhere, fill up several buckets with water so that you have some if needed. Don't depend on being able to get a hold of a plumber right now or in the near future.

We have already had several "water emergencies", going over this morning to rip wet sheet rock down and find a leak at our neighbor's house. Please make sure you are prepared!

Had my plumbing done in the remodel. All PEX pipe except that to my tub and one sink. I hope it works as it is supposed to. PEX expands, and is suppose to not burst in a freeze. So far, so good.

But all of chookchick's advice seems very sound. Better safe than sorry.

The Barnevelder and BC Maren that I keep will join the Wellies and Cuckoo Marens in the dark egg layer flock at another location. Plan to have 8 there. I will have to sell a couple of chickens when I see who is laying the darkest eggs, or who gets along, or whatever.

I have looked online for info on service animals because of advice I previously got and also from justbugged overnight.

I have a call into the Human Rights people in Olympia. Maybe I can find out some info that will help me when communicating with my city council. I sure hope so. I can't imagine what I will do if I have to get down to 8 hens and no roo.

I'm not sure I will be able to continue at all without Pinky to tell me when things are amiss. He is really good at that. I can tell by the sound of his crow and screams just what the problem is. Great communicator.

4 eggs so far today. No light the last 3 nights. I have had the heat emitter in their this past night. Seems to be working well. The water was not frozen. After I get a timer, I am going to have the lights come on at 4 PM and stay on until 10. I am also going to put some clear Christmas lights in the Coop pen. I think I will lock them in the coop pen at 5PM, and then the chicken house about 8PM. As long as Moody is here that will work, because he keeps predators at bay. When he is not here, I may have to put them into the house much earlier.

Motor mouth in my fingertips again.

I hope everybody has a great day. Sunny and almost balmy compared to the last week outside today. Hope it is heading in your direction!
