Biscuit&Nugget :

Hi fellow hen lovers! We (me and my 10-year-old daughter and hens) in the Tri-Cities, which is in Southeast WA. We are in the City of Richland. We started our backyard chicken-raising a year ago and we love it!! We have been "winging" it (no pun intended) since we started. Please feel free to write.

Hi Erin, I'm Julie from Outlook! Glad to see a fellow SE WA chick lover on here! (no offense to the other easterners!) What do you raise? I get to Tri-cities pretty regular we should keep in touch!

NPR did a story yesterday on the gang problems in Outlook. And I thought...hey wait a minute, we have a BYC pal in that town.
I tell ya, driving the WA highways is more interesting now that I've got BYC pals all over the state. Its so fun. Use to be... oh what town did we just drive through?
But now its ... hey that's where T-hi lives and here is where CR lives and what? going to Cashmere? Maybe I can buy pears & sneak in some goose eggs in a certain farm stand.

Got to get my trailer ready. DH wants me to sell it though. I'll miss the flushing toilet & running water & microwave oven & gas stove & tv & casette deck (love it) & refrigerator...but he promises we will stay at nice hotels.

Some how the smores don't taste so good out of a hotel coffee maker hot plate.

Oh I have a question for all the experts here, I'm trying to learn more about chicken breeds, but, what are the chickens, who you saw a lot of pictures of on old cans and things back in the old days, the roosters are buff almost blonde on top and have, I think green/maybe red too, feathers on the bottom?? Just curious if that's even a breed or something the ad agencies came up with? They are cool looking, I actually thought I saw one in a field here, but, I couldn't slow down to get a good look. Any ideas? If I find a pic of one on the internet I'll post it
thanks!

WOW!! we made NPR???? It doesn't surprise me, I live 2 miles out of town, which is a total of 10 houses a church and a post office. In the summer you can here gun fire from my house I don't watch the news or listen to it on the radio anymore. It aggravates me and I can't do anything about it anyway! I live three houses off a main road down a private lane, so I know whos coming before they get here, I have two shot guns loaded and a few more to boot! I better know your coming before I see you pull up!

It's rediculous really! We have 5.5 very nice acres here and it's crap that town(Sunnyside) is so gang ridden! I grew up in the valley almost 30 years ago and graduated from Grandview, It was a great place to live then. It still is if you ignore all the crap! Oh my gosh! We bought a camper today so I'm with you on the camping! And your so right about the smores! I can hardly wait to get it ready! It's a slide in for our pick up which means I can take my horses too!

check my avatar, that's the roo I used to have --- also Google up the wild chickens on Kauai ....

(just flew in one day, probably the descendant of the chickens from the fighting-cock farm we used to have over the back fence)

think they resemble the Welsummers, but will bow to those with more experience;
this one was part American Game I think

Not having any experience, I don't know what to say. If farming weren't hard enough with the vagaries of weather and all, the last thing people need is the well groomed neighbor's dogs mauling their animals. What happened about the dogs that mauled your animals?

They moved away. Can't say I miss them.

In other news, I need to go work on the new run, but have no interest at all in getting wet. Is this wrong of me?

Nope, I am with ya on that! I have some stuff to do on the run and I am procrastinating. It's working so far!
