Huh. Just got my first egg from CGG's light Sussex,

who for the moment is still named Whitey Ford. It's a pretty light brown, almost pink egg. I had just gone down to check on everyone, opened the access door to toss in a few treats and she was sitting in the box of sand that is on the poop board under the roosts. Of course I had two perfectly nice clean nests on the other side of the coop, but everything is new so I'm hoping everyone figures out the nests are for laying. I'll keep an eye on that.

I was sad to see my kitchen chicken girls were hiding out in a corner behind the water dish, with Harper hovering protectively over Dilly. I'm not sure why - no one appeared to be picking on them and there is plenty of room in the coop. I'm worried that I did them a disservice by having them in the house all this time and now they're afraid of other chickens.

I know I'm new and I'm fussing a bit. Just give me a few days and I'm sure I'll get over it. Or a few months.

Here is a picture of my DH in Japan. The truck and pump behind him is what he is going to teach a couple of local guys how to operate it. He wasn't impressed with how fast the guys were learning. I got an impression that maybe the two local guys have never operated any kind of concrete pump before. This is like learning to fly on the latest prototype of a fighter jet, rather than starting with a small Cessna. So I don't know how long he will need to be in Japan right now.

Want to trade your crazy white EE for a not crazy brown one? She is laying for the first time in the past couple of weeks. I am partial to white EE. (I always give them a witch name, and it sounds as if yours could use a witch name, lol). Anyway, I'm partial to white EE, and I haven't any . . .

just got done at a guest lecture with a famous forensic entomolgist. either i have the right personality for the profession (which i am not into entomology due to having to remember too much latin) or hollywood has decentizided me.
he showed real photos of dead and mutliated bodies and ones covered with maggots or at different decomposition... is it weird i found it all interesting and not really disguesting (there is more blood than showed on tv).
last weeks guest lecture was on bedbugs and it creeped and grossed me out and i had nightmares...

i also found it interesting that they can only really give postmortem interval estimates and if the person can get it down to a window of X hours then its bogus most of the time. I guess the window of estimated TOD on tv is too specific for real science....

on another note i visited the local quilt shop and bought a yard of the weather vane print and a few other prints (trying out some hunter prints now) so i will be able to make more of those WV potholders next week so everyone can get their wishes, but first i will finish the roosters before and right now i need to finish 4 feed bags. i am almost done i just need to fold the tops and place handles. then i will switch out needles.
I also found out that there is a quilt show tomorrow nearby and i might have to check it out to get some ideas.

I saw something really cool at the quilt shop. the guy had made a 'quilted' clock. i looked at it and he told me what to do so maybe i will try making some printed clocks.....

I do love my white EEs. Crazy or no...I got them at the Monroe Feed Store last year. Where are you, besides in Washington?
