These people, and this thread has started such a problem....addiction....love...craziness for chickens at my house it is insane. But I agree with you...keep bringing it on. With chickens, I have finally found a thing for my DD and I to do together that we both love. She is having a blast with the chickens and I am loving it too.

Chickens: bringing parents and children closer together, creatin' friendships wherever they are found.. AND they lay eggs to boot. Can't get much better than that can it?

So as you can tell I am very new here. I am looking to get some Marans and would like to consider buying a few girls that folks might be looking to home. How would I go about pursuing that?

alright i got bored and made myself my own kindle skin to protect it. i already have a built in lighted cover but eventually i will make my own fabric ones...

its the last photo in this album because of wording on it i will not post it on here

if anyone has humor go ahead and see it.
basically i got the idea to use my rooster design and put a caption to it using my boyfriends pronunciation of a rooster crow, but his has the fword going instead. which in retrospect i think that is exactly what some hens and most of the roosters are saying....

This
site shows an ordinance they are trying to pass in unincorporated Pierce County that would severely restrict our rights- no roosters, few hens, etc. Here is my response:
Dear Representative Bush,
Just a note to let you know I am very concerned about proposed ordinance 2011-26. We have a small (1 1/3 acre) lot in the middle of suburbia in Spanaway. The previous owners had horses. We have poultry-bantam show chickens, a few ducks and geese. We have marvelous relations with our neighbors and the people routinely mosey our way with bread in their pockets for all the critters. Our animals are neither crowded nor smelly- free ranging as they do over 1.3 acres, but we certainly have more than a dozen. We bought this property quite specifically for this use, moving just across the street from our little tract house. I am the local 4H leader and also allow member children to keep birds at our house because they live in condos or apartments or just have parents who dislike animals. Obviously, the passage of this ordinance would greatly impinge upon our personal freedom and the ability to use our land for the purpose intended. (Since the market dropped right after we bought it, this has been an expensive poultry investment indeed.) Our website is: swpoultry.com
Please do not allow these short-sighted individuals who want government to control our every action to take away our freedom to use our property appropriately.
I hope everyone can spend the time to immediately let your representative know that you are opposed to this regressive, restrictive ordinance. The site is nicely done and lets you know how to contact your representative.

I have ALWAYS considered my birds "Pets with Perks", meaning they are our pets, but I get eggs. Now I see many more perks that they have.

Welcome....

A lot of the normal welcoming committee is in Stevenson this weekend for a show. As you can tell from the pages there are on this thread, this is a chatty group. You name it, we have probably chatted about it. This is also a thread filled with wonderful, knowledgeable people when it comes to your chicken questions. I know there are a few that have Marans (Zgoatlady is one) and you should be able to find some for yourself really soon. Again, welcome and jump in head first...this is a great group.
