You need to pick him up (if you can) and hang him upside down and just walk all around with him. Than hold him so the other roosters can see. Thats what I did with one of my older roosters and he changed his tune real fast.

This is what I have been doing to the banties we hatched, holding them upside down till they feel good and humiliated! We ended up with 1 P and 4K's. The K's started grabbing a beak full of each others feathers and holding on for dear life. Looked like a bucking bronco ride!

One was so ornery that I hobbled him for a while and he cooled his jets big time! They all seem to be better after a little attitude adjusting.

Sumatras have been my best, protective mothers--even the roos will get mean when protecting CHICKS! The nicest/best broodies I've had are always cochins. They look concerned but don't attack when I pick up their chicks.

Harriet is broody now, and I have 7 eggs under her. She is so sweet! I can pet her, she is calm, no growling. My broody EE is mean, but not as mean as the BO was. she growls and attacks. I never see her leave the nest to eat or drink, so I put food in her reach; tried water too, but it made a mess. No I go check on her 5+ times per day and I bring a little hamster water bottle so she can drink. Afterwards she lets me rub her comb and pet her. Calms her right down; but if she does not see that water bootle, watch out! I'm pretty sure there is no chick growing in her eggs. At some point I will need to pull her off the eggs. She's been on them for 2 weeks now.

Go Harriet! LOL She's a GREAT mother, too! Very determined and very mothering...wow--7 eggs??

And she's so tiny!

Think I found my problem why I always get late hatches. I've had this manual thermometer I've been using. Now I buy a new digital thermometer and the temp that was 100ish degrees on the manual turns out to only be 97 on the digital thermometer?! I'm hoping the digital is more accurate

Heres to better hatch rates

He was a known drug offender who was living in a rental house that has since been torn down. He had fantasies that he was saving the poor neglected animals: my BIL's barns are near where his grandparent's house was, and the guy thought the animals weren't looked after at all because there's no house there anymore. How he explained the fat happy piggies and all the heat lamps in the farrowing pens and the manure cleaned out every day, well: known drug offender.

Uh oh. You're not talking about the manual thermometer on the Brinsea are you? I plugged my Brinsea octagon in this morning and haven't been able to get it under 100 degrees yet as I'm trying to just get it a smidge under. Now I'm wondering if I should have just left it where it was.

It was a mercury one but it came with my hovabator so maybe your lucky

I'm sure the brinsea will do just fine, I haven't heard a bad thing about those little bators.

What are ya goin to hatch?

sometimes it gets annoying when you post on craigslist trying to see if anyone else wants chicks from some hatching eggs i will be incubating and for no reason my post gets flagged.... me thinks there are anti chicken people in the world....

Yeah, but then you have to deal with a pig.

I'm anti-pig: my BIL has a few sows, and they take up more time and energy than all whoever-knows-how many cows, calves, bulls, feeders and replacement heifers combined. Also they smell. And are even harder to keep fenced than goats. If other people can deal with them, fine, go ahead, but remember, it takes longer to get rid of blackberries than a pig stays chewable, so expect to eat a lot of sausage when the blackberries are done.

(It is possible I may feel about pigs a bit the way Blue Dicky feels about chickens).

I love pigs! I still dont know why everyone says they are so hard to keep in. mine never got out. 2 x 4 welded wire wired up to t posts...hotwire around the bottom and all 3 stayed in. I gave them a big enough pasture though. they didnt really stink much and they stayed in their pen. my pigs ate the roots first. did not take them long at all to clear out the patch in their pen.

We did not have a sow....we bought piglets and raised them and butchured them in the fall. never had problem 1 with them. Loved having them and would love to have more some day. Did this for years and loved it. My mother always loved having fresh pork and keeps hinting at me she wants to again...but does not have the physical capability to do it. Who knows I may someday.

X2 Only time my hogs got out was when we had to leave town and DD was SUPPOSED to take care of them. Last thing I told her as we were driving out "make sure to feed and water the pigs or they will get out". Well the pigs got out and my first question did ya feed em??? Auhm I forgot!!! Form my experience if ya give em food water and shelter they have no reason to want to leave.

We had an automatic waterer and automatic free feeder for them. They were in a "corral" that was kind of like "panels" and then a hot wire run around it. We always loved to go and watch the piglets hit the hot wire for the first day. HILARIOUS. I guess this is kind of like "hillbilly" humor.
