We had to call The Boy on this one. My son has a pick-up, and strong mussels. So I had The Dad and The Boy handle the picking up and loading thing. They even got it into the back yard, It is just about where I thought it should be. I must say I really appreciate all the things that DH and DS do for me.

Someone has shot 2 Peirce County Sheriff Deputies tonight out in the Etonville area. I can't hardly believe that we are doing this again. At least they are still alive. They are going to need our prayers tonight.

OMG I can't believe it has just happened again !!!!!!!! Just heard on the news that 2 Pierce Co deputies have been shot and as reported by Ed Troyer have life threatning injuries. The suspect is dead. This is all in the Tamwax lake area (Eatonville). I will be keeping these officers in my thoughts and prayers.

I am going to have to save this post as you have some good ideas there for DE.

Ya know, I don't really measure it. I think I read on BYC somewhere that there is a percentage you can put in their food but as far as I know, they can't OD on it or anything.

I have a bucket that I carry the feed in. It's not as big as a 5 gallon bucket so I'm guessing it's about a 3.5 gallon or so. I fill it up almost to the top with feed and then throw about 3/4 of a small Cottage Cheese container full of DE in the bucket of feed. Then I rotate the bucket back and forth and let the DE settle down thru the feed before dumping it into the feeder. I don't do this every time I feed them but do make sure they get a good dose of DE at least ever 10-15 days. As far as I can tell it works great.

I also take a flour sifter and dust the coop floor good when I clean it out, then I put another layer of DE over the chips, and I dust the nesting boxes too. Occasionally, I'll even go out at night and give all the birds a good dusting while they're on the roost. Again, so far, I have no mites or lice problems.

God Bless,

I love Foghorn and what a great name. is he friendly? or is he skidish like the leghorn hens? I only have one leghorn left now. but the only way I can get close to her is when I have mealworms. If I get another white egg layer. I think I will get another Calif. White. she is a good layer and has become my Best friend ( outside of weaveagarden of coarse) she stays right at my feet all the time and lets me pick her up no problem.
Hey I would take the cute little chicken in the pink with the blonde hair. You could have her back when she turns 13 and knows EVERTHING!!!

Hah, Foghorn is awesome, he'll follow me around the yard, but doesn't like to be picked up (like the leghorn hens, unfortunately) if you can catch him though, he's quite friendly. And he's looking for a new home (hinthint

You have to keep her till she's 18.

RonB - You might want to consider a Delaware chicken. They are a cross between a Barred Bock and a NewHampshire. While a dual purpose, they are very prolific egg layers. And they lay a brown egg. SandHill Hatchery had them listed as their most prolific layer when I last looked. And they also lay a large egg. They have the Columbia markings (black in the hackles and tail) But their black markings are barred, so it creats a speckles effect.

I have one that I call Della. I got her at the same time as my first dark egg layers, so she is fostered out. But she has grown quickly. She is also the friendliest of the all of the chickens over there.

I am going to keep it short and sweet today. Lots of Christmas prep going on over here.

I hope everyone has a great holiday! (Especially you my good buddy Ronnie Roo)

I would take him in a second if I didn't have Barnie,my BR roo. he is beautiful. and he takes reel good care of his girls. Not sure where he was when the coyote got my leghorn:confused: I don't think two roos would get along, would they? Barnie is alot bigger than Foghorn, so maybe it would work. But don't think the Landlord would go for it. They love Barnie. But Two roos? might be pushing it.
Sorry 18 is TOO long, I have one that is 24 that I am still trying to get out of the house

Yeah Ron, it probably wouldn't go over too well. Foghorn is my dominant rooster, so he's not likely to stand down. I seriously have to find a home for him though. He respects DH and I, but he jumped on my daughter very threateningly. He didn't get her, but I'm blaming myself, he got into the run with the hens and she cornered him. Still, I'm looking to find him a non-small child home. I'd like to think it's a fluke thing, but I already don't let them into the rooster pen.

Sooo I'm still looking for rooster homes, and one pig home.... No one seems to want the male because I had him neutered. I did it for two reasons 1) it gives them a longer life, and 2) I couldn't deal with the boy hormones and stink. Srsly. It cut the smell he made in half.

Darn breeders, I wish they would even take him to re-sell. I'll be taking him to the shelter if I don't find a home for him.

Okay, I'm done venting about pigs

i had oatmeal for dinner...
the when i was at the bottom of the bowl i noticed there were worms.....
so now i feel sick
but i cooked up the rest of the oatmeal
added tums
and dog food that has minimum 27% protein
and gave it to the chickens.....
they were happy.
