He's pretty, and, for a change, taller than all but one of my cows.

Azura, she's special; she's about 70 inches tall at the hip, which is, what, seventeen and a half hands? Big cow.

You gonna help him with her, or let him try it on his own ?
I am all for artificial ensemination in the prior, do not want nothing to do with helping bovine mating...yikes, a good way to get creamed, no pun intended!!

The bull last year was about a foot shorter than this one, and Azura had twins, so I think they'll manage.

....................it was good for a laugh!!
Hope it made you smile!!
I still remember the black & blue marks, and smell of burnt hair & hide from my squeeze chute days, castrating, shots, worming, ear tag, brand and enseminate the cows........yuck, squeeze, unhook the tilt, lay it over, clip the big fall calfs, and rubber band the smaller spring calves...........yuck.
Too much work for this old lady...

Yesterday it was me, my sister, my nearly 25yo son, and my sister's 13yo, and only 23 animals to handle; last week down at her place it was the four of us and her husband and close to 40 head (because she keeps a few replacement heifers and feeders there as well as breeding stock) and the week before that it was the three of them and whoever they could find to work most of the herd, most of the replacement heifers, and the steers being finished on grain. We band almost all the bull calves as soon as they hit the ground, and vaccinate and ear tag everything ditto. And cull all the problem personalities as soon as they show up. (And we still need to cut down on the numbers of cattle we carry and sell more hay, buy less grain and vet products and fuel, but I don't have a degree in ag econ to work the numbers and show the managers how to do it).

AI is too labor intensive for us, but then we are beef breeders and most beef bulls are pretty mellow; I ran into somebody online elsewhere a couple of weeks ago who was freaking out about how inhumane AI was and thought "no there's somebody who's never met a dairy bull."

Ain't that the truth !!! They need to have the (dis) pleasure of having to work closely with a nice (sarcastic) dairy bull !!!

I don't trust ANY bull, but I won't go in a pasture with a dairy bull, no matter how big the pasture is and how many gates there are to get out of it. This guy is OK, but I need to point out that the photo was taken with maximum 8X telephoto.

Like I have room to talk. I haven't played since 2000. No place and no one who plays.

I have kids to chase around. teenage boys that do every sport under the sun, and chickens to chase around. But you are right.....the paintball was fun. I bruise so easy though that one time everyone was worried about me having a possible blood clot because I had such a big bruise from being hit so many times in a fairly close area on my leg. Freaked everyone out. I was actually asked once at Wal*Mart if my DH beat me...I told them that that would be the LAST thing he ever did in THIS life time...but that he did shoot me occasionally.

I never believed in giving up...so I got shot up quite a few times. It was good exercise. Very fun.

I set my eggs on the 21st of April. So I am counting the 22nd as day 1. And if my brain is working properly, that would put my babies due date on the 12th. Lockdown will start iether late night on the 9th, or early on the 10th. Lock down IS suposed to be 3 days right? lol

If my thinking is right your lockdown would start on iether late on the 10th or on the 11th. And yours should be due on the 13th!

Yeay for hatching buddies who keep me on track!

I would be lost right now if I didnt have everyone here! Just have SO much going on in my life right now, that I am a total space cadet.

Thank YOU for being a hatching buddy! Speaking of, have my fellow Brinsea hatching buddies entered the May hatch contest? You can win an Ovascope this month. You need to post on the Brinsea May hatch thread here and also be a friend on Facebook.

I am already a friend .... what do I ahve to do?

Worst hits for me were the ones that hit just above my mask and skipped off my bald head. Now that hurts like well anyway. "givig up" winners never quit and quitters never win !!!!

Cows here are put out to range and then they make their way out of the hills through the summer. I would much rather trust a bull than one of these wild-eyed, freaky range cows. Especially a cow that has got into someone's pot farming....wowsie...now that is 1 crazy-bugged-eyed cow. And crazy-wild ....

. Yep....don't trust'em.
