Most people refer to it as chicken TV. You must have been to some really wild churches in your time.

I have Goat TV no really have a camera to watch them when they are kidding. The Two TV sit on my dinner table in the spring. LOL

I'm trying to catch up on our every growing heaps of laundry - just pulled a load out from the dryer and found Silly Putty stuck to a bunch of stuff
barnie.gif

Any clue how to get it out?

Hopefully it won't be as horrible as the navy blue crayola crayon in the load of whites - after soaking it in everyone's best laundry soak, and trying everything else I could think of, and washing it all about a dozen times I gave up and tie-died the lot.

We never got any as kids because my mom had heard horror stories about it being stuck in the long shag carpet that was all the rage those days.

So, just curious? Chicken Church; disrespectful?

Disrespectful - to the chicks!

Since churches are so often filled with joyless people like her, I think you are best off to stick with your little friends. More of the Universes' great humor there than most churches, for sure.

Hey, I just went to the Chicken Auction and boy, am I MAD!

I was selling a real nice black marans roo I had, and I noted on the paper that he was "purebred". The snot nosed kid that pulls the chickens out of the coops threw a tantrum right on the spot, yelling "HOLD EVERYTHING! THATS NOT A MARANS!" stating that it did not "have feathered legs". Now, while this is not my breed, I happened to have sat through a very interesting lecture on the marans at the recent APA mini-national, the day after they were accepted by the APA, and learned that very many marans in this country don't have feathered legs, but that its nota big deal, as if you want to show you can breed into the feathered legged kind and quickly breed in the feather leg gene.

Well, this put a huge damper on everyone (he did this right at the beginning of bidding) and made me look like a freaking liar! The bird only sold for $12 when RIR hens were going for $17!!!!! I yelled at the guy that 1/2 the population of marans in the US don't have feathered legs but the damage was done. Man, I was steamed. Needless to say, I won't be going back there and will go to the other auction (which isn't as good for sellers) from now on. Too bad, as most of the people there are nice, but this carrot top has been a royal pain in my butt everytime i go there (non stop talking up his birds and how much he knows) and this was the last straw!!!!

ANyway, just needed to vent. I really enjoy going to these auctions and its a bummer that this twerp ruined it for me. (I don't get mad easy at all, but when I do, it sticks).

OK,going out to play with my chickens and cool down!

About the dog cart for the dachshund. My first dog, a mini Dachshund slipped a disk at 8 years of age. She was in horrible pain and we had to euthanize her.

PLEASE! make sure that your little friend will be best served by a wheelchair. Many are not. Many are in agony (and as you know most dogs hide it so well) but just keep motoring on, poor dudes.

The problem with the whole wheelchair thing is that if the dog is not mobile, it must have round the clock care. It can only spend a small amount of time in the sling, and other times must be out of it and constantly moved so that it won't get bed sores. As well, these types of dogs often end up urinating in place, and endup with urine burns if 24/7 care isn't taken to clean them.

They are ENTIRELY reliant on owner for every drink of water, every everything. And as someone who has had back surgeries, I can assure you that enforced mobility REALLY causes horrible muscle cramps that hurt worse than just about anything. And you can't move enough to relieve them. So the dogs must be massages about twice a day.

I fear far too many people think a "cart" will be "cute" or will make the dog "back to normal" when in reality time in a cart is just a very small fraction of the day for the dog. It is a tough, uncomfortable life for the vast majority, and being dogs they tuff it out because they are so stoic and love us so.

It is not something I would ever do to one of my dogs, but to each his own, and if you decide to go ahead with it I wish you the best of luck, but please consider all angles of the dog's care.

Lucky you - I adore clever repartee! And I adore my family who often gather around a large dinner table with several bottles of vino to accompany the excellent food. Of course, not wanting to waste any, the bottles are typically emptied by the end of dinner, but we are still enjoying the conversation full of family stories, some tearful sentiment, political discussions and plenty of laughter. I KNOW I've been fortunate. My sisters and parents and I all live within 10 minutes of each other, my brother being the only rebel who moved all the way to downtown Seattle. But we make a point of seeing each other often.

Which is not to say we are the Cleaver family. As with many extended families, (MANY aunts, uncles, cousins galore), we have had our share of family drama. But my Dad, who is the eldest among his cousins, works hard to be a mediator and find compromise among family members who are bickering. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. We celebrate happy occasions as often as possible and expect everyone to be civil to each other. I can't take any credit for what has worked in our family, but only hope I can live the best of what I've learned by example.

When it works, embrace it, - when it doesn't, appreciate what you do have that works and walk away from the rest.

Another advantage of a large family is that it's easy to find yourself at opposite ends of the crowd with no reason to interact much when two of you are not getting along.

VERY true.

Sounds like my family. My wife and I looked at eachother one day and just decided we were through with the fighting and bickering with my family. We no longer go to holiday functions. We show up and visit, and leave a few hours later...tell all we love them and return to our "castle" where there is peace.

AMEN!!!!
