It's so nice, and flat, the sun is shining, and no mud in sight! I think I'm going to faint!

LOL!! that's too funny! we have had our share of rain which I can tell you is unusual!! there are some flats spots but, there are lots of hills and TONS of ROCKS too!

On my property you get a choice of rocky glacial till (most of our property) Or muck so thick it sucks your shoes off! Somehow the chickens ended up in the muck because that is inside the fence. If you want nice fertile soil you need to buy it and put it in planters so it won't sink through the rocks.

I am no chicken pro and cant even offer any real info here. But I will say that while it is sad to have a failed hatch. It is Awesme how you turned it into a learning oppurtunity. So while you didnt get the live hatches you had hoped for you gained some thing that may prove to be much more valuable.

2x what CR said.

There are only 4 factors about eggs that can cause issues.
1) heat
2) humidity
3) air
4) deformity or other health issue with the chick.

So if you had the temp at 100 at all times, humidity at right place, incubator is not sealed tight to cause lack of oxygen then most likely it is just something that was wrong with the chick embryo.

If there was to much humidity the chick would have been soggy with dripping fluids.
If there was not enough humidity then the membrane would have shrunk around the embryo.

The temp is relative since the embryo's temp is more stable then the air so opening the bator should not cause problems there. unless the egg was allowed to get the inside temp down to dangerous levels. (I don't know what the dangerous temp would be I try never to get below 90F.)

As long as you have some sort of air exchange oxygen should not be a issue. In homemade bators this means a vent down low and a vent up high to create a air flow.

The rest is up to genetics and big guy and that's something we have no control of and just IS.

of your 4 questions the only thing I can think is maybe to high humidity... but you can see that when you open the eggs. you will get a "water" that pours out and amounts to more then the egg white.

It will be interesting to hear any feedback. I tossed the remaining three without any eggtopsy. I just wasn't brave enough.

Us duck folk must be crazy ol rednecks! We had a bad egg opening party!! We had 4 extra people come over just to watch what happened when we opened the dead eggs!!

We find it very interesting. Almost kind of cool!

Maybe if I thought that we would never get anymore eggs to hatch then I would have been very upset...... but dem duckers just keep poppin dem eggs out!!

I only have 40 more minutes to eat before I have to fast for the endoscopy. I'm not even slightly hungry but, CL's nanner cream pie sounds quite enticing!!!

It's the rebellious Italian in me that just hates being told what to do!!! Once I get home and come down off of the drugs it won't even bother me! It's not like I've been eating much anyway! I'm just a head strong stubborn ....

Mr H finally convinced me to go see doctor. Was convinced I had avian flu or some such nonsense. Mr. H is a bit of an alarmist. Turns out my sinuses are trying to drain into my ears. Between the spray and the shot, my sinuses are so clear, it's cold every time I inhale. Hopefully the dizziness will clear as my ears clear. Headaches are probably just stress.
