Hi, was busy working in the garden today before it rained on me. Its tricky planting corn with chickens hovering around then wanting to go back and scratch them up... guess boyfriend will have to fence the garden.
He has had a rough week, thursday afternoon i got off work and John was really depressed. It seems one of the chicks that we brought back into the bator for isolation had really bad pasty butt. When john was trying to get it all off he accidently bumped the remainder yolk sac and the poor chick was de gutting so he had to put the chick down. Now i know I or John will never be able to process our own roosters. He hunts and can gut a deer easily but bonding with food is not a good thing.
So i have 19 healthy chicks. They don't peep much and seem to tolerate the cold in the brooder better.... they actually get too hot. I like hatching my own chickens because the chicks are not afraid of you.
I have many blue chicks it seems.
One is a blue turken and the other is a turken EE i think, I see some muffs on it.
And oddily enough somehow I have the right cross going to get an EExsomething with a Straight Comb and Perfectly Yellow legs but with perfect Muffs.
I think I have some Acona crosses because these have similar faces and their legs are multi colored (black and yellow spots)
I will have photos when i have a working camera... my old one quit on me (again) the shutter button stops working....
I have 24 eggs sitting on the counter to put in tomorrow. 6 Golden Cukoo Marans, 6 Blue Birchern, 12 Partridge Penedenesca (but 3 arrived with cracks, couldn't tell till i candled). I have let these shipped eggs settle for 48 hours to let the air spaced settle.
Next week the Icelandic, Arucana and Norwegian Jaerhon eggs will be coming.
4321 are you stopping by tomorrow?
