Noper ... it will come to a vote this coming November.

Pretty sad if it passes. I thought I heard somewhere that they often get less space than that.

The issue of commercial poultry farming is this :

Current standard is 67 sq inches per hen, that is 6" x 10"

---- This Bill that Gov Gregoire wants to see passed, will only add some space to the industry standard.

---- The initiative seeks to make commercial poultry farms go cage free.

Below is a link to some statistics about battery cages. Please be warned what you will read, WILL be DISTURBING. No pictures!

And today after the tractor was returned to the rental center.

Theres quite a bit more room past the Chestnut tree in the far corner on the right, and there is more room way off to the left! Im SOOO very happy with the way its starting to look! Now to smooth it out and plant a mixture or rye, alfalfa, and timothy.

No more progress on the roundpen yet, But it will be close to complete this week!

Man, the night crew is back! Good to see you JB! However, it's now going to take me twice as long as it's been taking me to catch up!

Don't have time today. DH, DD1 and DD3 are all testing tonight for new belts in Tae Kwon Do. All 3 girls were supposed to be going to the County Level 4-H Public Presentation contest tonight, but the two girls in TKD preferred to go to that and just received their testing notice this week. So I am taking DD2 to that 4-H contest. Busy night. But a late dinner afterwards at Olive Garden is the tradition after TKD testing, so looking forward to that! Hope everyone has a good holiday weekend! Maybe the sun will actually stick around for Sunday???

Get ready for chick pic overload. My gf who has been sick all week finally sent me the photos she took last Friday when the chicks were only one week old. Today they are two weeks old and they have changed a lot!

Still, I'm glad I have these pictures of my first little fuzzy butts. I have gotten hours of entertainment from them. I love the posturing from what I'm guessing are the little roos, the crazy "chase me" games a few of them play, I even love when they run in panic every time I put the brooder lid back on because no matter how many times it happens the sky is always falling.
And I love snuggling all of them. They're pretty good therapy. It's going to be hard to let them go. On second thought, I may feel a little different in a few weeks when they AND their poo is a little bigger.

My one and only BCM chick, no idea if it's a boy or girl

And how is your mom doing? Is she getting around well now?

Yes, she's doing much better. Bent her leg today to 97 degrees, pain is gone for the most part, just taking a tiny 5 mg pain pill prior to PT. And she can stand up straight and bear weight evenly on both legs, but she has to be so careful with that because she cannot turn/twist that leg at all. The knee getting blown out is almost as bad as the break she had, so it's like a double whammy injury. Her stability in her knee from left to right they said could take a year to be 100%.

Is there any Dog or Chicken 4-H groups around Bonney Lake/Sumner area? My daughter is 6 almost 7yrs, I thought it would be fun to learn more about chickens. We have 6 hatchery chickens. I do have a client friend that is hatching some Barnies that came from show stock so we might be able to show them. I grew up in dog 4-H & we have a young cocker she could show.
