I am here! We are about 100 yards from the river and up a way, so we are safe!

I can see the river from my office and it is very high. The park in Metaline is flooded almost to the road and the dam at Box canyon is wide open and the river is flowing through there is level on both sides.

Thank you for thinking of me!

But, then again, aren't most of us transplants?

I'm not a transplant....
Great Grandma, Grandma, mom and my sisters and I were all born and raised in Western WA...
We've been here since the mercer girls in 1857 were brought over by my great great grandpa Sam Tingley

Your great great grandparents probably knew Mr. H's great great grandparents.

I'm not a transplant: both parents and both Dad's parents were born in Washington, as was his grandfather. On the other hand, both of Dad's grandmothers were born in Canada, and one set of my mother's grandparents were immigrants from Bohemia.

I'm bummed: my hired hand has another gig tomorrow, so I've got to figure out a way to get 2X4s and pavers and composted steer manure home- looks like a Ford trip to Home Depot after dinner tonight, alas. On the other hand, no money for labor tomorrow, which has its own advantages. And if it's not raining I'm free to do eighty-gazillion loads of laundry!

Yep Arabs aren't for everyone, they are VERY sensitive to people and training, like all breeds there are lots that have been over and inbred and need to be handled carefully and with experienced people. I have had horses over 30 yrs, and have had a few different breeds, mainly QH or crosses, it hasn't been till the last 10 yrs I've had an Arab. My first was a youngster and I had a lot of work to do, but I was slow and methodical and actually rode him for the first time in an english saddle, ( I don't generally ride english) no buck!! He was a good horse, the second and the one I still have is a rescue, he had a few issues but he has turned out to be one of my best horses and my good buddy and has NEVER offered to kick, or buck!!! So, you have to do your homework, you have to know what the temperament is and the best way to train that animal, they are all different. yes most breeds have certain characteristics that's why we get QH to do the ranch work, and Arabs for endurance riding, ect, they have the traits that suit that job, but, they have if you want to call it, personalities that make them all different! Sorry your sister had a bad experience, maybe she shouldn't have been on a green horse?? People want to blame the horse, but, if she didn't have the experience and the horse needed more training, it was a bad fit. Sounds like more miles and wet saddle blankets with an experienced rider for that horse!!! Sorry just my opinion, don't get me wrong, I've made those mistakes in the beginning too, at my age, I'm a little more careful what I climb on now. I let a younger rider take on a green horse first. But, I get gutsy once in a while!!

It happened back in 03'. Haven't been back just because I had my daughter in 04' & just haven't had the time to get back up there. Need to buy a travel trailer if we want to go back up. Anyway, my sister had more miles on horses then I did & she's younger then me so we chose it that way. I just stick to a horse better then her. My sister was trying to post as the horse was troting in a western saddle, just a bad combo as she wasn't ready for the buck. The buck threw her into the crown/horn first then flat on her back.

I had acouple psycho, thoroughbreds and one quarter cross that was nuts!!! Ran me into the middle of the road when car was coming. I believe the Arab rescue I have now is polish, has the dip but his head is thicker and he has the pointed little ears, he's about 21 now and just a good boy!! He still after about 7 years won't fully trust me, he only lets me love on him a little then pulls away

I can tell he was hit and kicked around but, I have never had to strong arm him at all, it takes very little pressure to move him on or off the ground. He will let you grab his tail and he will pull you up the trail, and if your on the ground and need to hustle, he's right there beside you trotting right along!! Have no idea about his past just know, he's a good one, but!! He HATES needles!! That would be his only draw back, vaccine time is a pain!!! He's quick and moves fast when he sees that needle coming!!! don't blame him tho, I don't like them pointed in my direction either!! lol!!!!
