Someone also told me that if you take a B1 tablet every day, the mosquitos will leave you alone. Don't know about spiders, though.
I'm gonna try it to see if it works on NO-SEE-UMS. They have been chewing on me so much that I think I have actually lost weight!!!

there are no stupid questions except for the ones you dont ask. yes saddle feathers are back feathers right in front of the tail. cockerels have longer pointy ones and pullets have short blunt ones. if you wing sexed your orps keep track, you may be right!! blue over black will give you 50% each color. blue over buff will give you who knows what, buff does not mix with the blue black and splash. it gives you strange unrecognized colors per the SOP.

Thank you for the web site and the information. I have bookmarked the web site. Since this is the breed that I am really leaning hard toward I need to learn all I can. I just love them.

I also need to get information for DD to learn about Seramas.

What is a good book for bird standards and information?

THE book to have which lists all the current bird standards is the Standard of Perfection (often referred to here as the SOP): http://www.purelypoultry.com/standard-p-686.html
It
was just recently re-issued, so the 2010 copy is the most current. It is worth getting the hard cover edition if you can, because it shows the birds in color. The paperback is black and white. HOWEVER, it only lists the standards that have been accepted by the American Poultry Association, so Serama's and English style Orps aren't in there, the Orpington Standard in their is for the traditional American style Orp. I would suggest you search out the club's for those two breeds online.

Yeah, yeah! I was building the nest boxes. Measuring, sawing, hammering. Crazy bugs! I have at least 40 bites ! On my ears and hands and even on my upper lip! You don't want to know what kind of a dance I would have to do to keep these little boogers off me! It wouldn't do a thing to scare these predators away but would probably cause the neighbors to list their houses!!
