How old is your Austra-white? The one that RonB has had a really pronounced and very red comb by 4-5 weeks. If that one is older I would guess pullet. But I am no expert.

Did some remodeling of the inside of the coop. I hade 4 nesting boxes that sat on the floor in a line. I took those and stacked them in a box formation. Made a new roost too. Have more floor space for chickens now. I wanted to get this done before integrating the young ones in with the flock. I still have a few weeks to go, but it feels good to have it done. Too tired to take pics tonight. Maybe tomorrow. Hope everyone enjoyed the sun as much as I did!

This is why I'm getting a sheep. He will have a nice flexible pen that can be oozed into small corners and he will eat the grass and blackberries without further damaging my multiply-dislocated shoulders nor my husband's bionic back.

We bought no less than three weedeaters last summer, but there is no longer a light-weight electric that's manual feed, and the automatic feed ones do not deal well with the reality of a lawn made of 7-star pasture grass. There's also the small problem of trying to get chicken coops built during every non-rainy day since March, and doing it as a brittle, insulin-dependant diabetic on a very short leash blood-sugar wise.

I mean, what: you thought I was kidding when I mentioned shoulder-high grass? You should see the east-side yard, the grass and snowberries are fighting it out for supremacy there.

That's actually been there since we pruned one of my larger roses. Two of us. Five hours.

Grass is the least of my problems. But I believed I've mentioned at least once that I was getting tempted to just leave the gate open and let a couple moderately sized cows in.
